Well, let's just say I know a little about them. For the price, they are not bad and shoot a pretty good sized round. However, I often have trouble with the bolt itself, both when I am trying to get a round into the chamber and then when I try to eject the same round. I would say, though, go for it. For the price its not a bad gun. Then again, its not a great gun either. You may get one that has a better functioning bolt.

May I suggest that buyers define their mission and budget before deciding a weapon is suitable?

Not just a suitable rifle, but a diverse set of honed skills and ancillary equipment is necessary to accomplish LR (Long Range, 500-1,000 yds) and ELR (Extreme Long Range, >1,000 yds) hits. After many years of other shooting disciplines, I recently entered the LR/ELR niche and I am again a babe in the woods. Much to learn, but that is part of the attraction. One of my new tutors opined, "Accuracy is addictive—and expensive."

Seraphim, I forgot to ask, "What Savage 10 model are you considering?"

Notwithstanding my earlier gratuitous criticisms against Savage (meant only to aggravate that arrogant and now-banned "John Chrysostom" jerk), the Savage 10 is a fine rifle. One of my mentors loaned me his customized Savage while my competition rifle was in the shop for upgrades. It certainly outshot my current LR skill set (our nearby range reaches 800+ yds).

That said, if you are serious about LR/ELR the Remington 700 is ubiquitous, used rifles in good condition are quite affordable, and after market upgrades and services are legion—IMHO giving it the edge.
