A little dissapointed at all the Southerners not willing to tough the cold in Canada. Im from Egypt I did it! Anyways climate change is coming I might be able to grow bananas in a few years (LOL!)Seriously though if God calls, you follow, we just have to keep our ears open. I dont really care about modern luxuries our generation is too spoiled as it is. We are personally off grid which was new to me but it didnt take long to adjust. As long as you have heating(wood), running water, and a roof over your head you can do well. The winters where we are have been mild less a week or so of very cold temp. The summers are moderate but gardens grow well if they are root vegis. There is access to all ammentities but alot of privacy and space. The best thing though is its a fishermans paradise. Lots of lakes some of the cleanest in North America. Annie
Are enough veggies being grown there to tide someone over through the seasons? Enough to store and eat during the winter? Does anyone keep animals that can be butchered and eaten?I worry that we are all too dilettante-ish about these things. This is probably because we know deep down that surviving through the disaster that's coming is mainly a matter of luck, and not of preparation. Someone could prepare for years, build himself a bunker, have a thousand guns, grow all his own food, and be wiped out by a bomb. While someone else may make no preparation at all and somehow stumble through.
Forget community gardening. My survival plan includes a small penned in area, lots of hay, and at least 2 of these:http://64.19.142.12/www.neatorama.com/images/2007-01/giant-rabbit.jpg
