  • So milk, corn, wheat, oil might be skyrocketing in price, but we don't want people to choose to cancel their brainwashing/TV subscription...

    Dish freezes prices
    Satellite TV operator EchoStar will keep most rates steady for one year, offer three free months to new customers.

    ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- Satellite TV operator EchoStar Communications Corp. said Monday it will keep the prices on some of its programming packages at their current rates for one year.

    The starting price of the company's DishDVR Advantage package will remain at $39.99 per month until Feb. 2009. Dish Network also has a DishDVR Advantage package priced at $49.99.

    The company said its DishFAMILY package, which offers 40 family-friendly channels, will stay priced at $19.99 a month.

    Aside from the price freezes, Dish will also offer new customers three months of free programming, no activation fees and a free home protection plan for nine months.

    EchoStar recently completed the spinoff of its technology and set-top box business into EchoStar Holding Corp. EchoStar Communications (DISH, Fortune 500) will remain focused on the direct broadcast satellite business. Shares fell 98 cents to $32.50 in early morning trading Monday.
