"You'd be surprised how much radiation there is just around us in nature. Ahh, you get a certain radiation dose when you eat a banana, for example. Uhh, and kitty litter is one of the things that routinely sets off radiation detectors at borders. Uhh, ahh, so, uh, detection is another issue, but it's just not that hard to smuggle nuclear materials is the point I'm trying to make."

All the more reason to keep cats outdoors, where they are actually useful in catching rodents, etc.

We have had farm cat(s) here for years -- never have a problem with mice, or a problem disposing of our food scraps. Cats love skin, fat, bones, etc.

Chicken starter is most likely GMO corn and soy-based. It is used to feed baby chicks.

If you are providing this chicken starter for your cats to use as litter, the GMO dust and antibiotics (if you buy the medicated stuff), can contaminate the air you breathe.

Surely there is a better solution than to use chick start as kitty litter.

By the way, the Amazon link I provided is not working for some strange reason.

Apparently a CathInfo member should think twice about using chick start for kitty litter, because it could lead to being banned.

While I debated having my first post on a Catholic forum be about cat litter, I did want to say I've used chicken feed for years both to avoid my cats inhaling clay, silica, perfumes, etc and to save money.  It works very well for us and our 5 cats.  As far as dust that contains gmos, it's certainly possible, but I still feel better about that than the clay or clumping type dust.  Clay dust causes breathing problems in my husband so it's just not an option.  In addition, the chick starter doesn't contain antibiotics, so no worries there.  The medication is a thiamin uptake inhibitor to prevent coccidocis from developing.  No harm to mammals at all. I just use the layer crumbles feed anyway.   I am an experienced chicken owner as well.

Amazing that this message on using layer crumbles as cat liter is your first post here.

I used to raise chickens. When I let my hens garden with me and eat all the critters they found plus a few mice, I noticed that their eggs really tasted delicious.

Oh, having your own fresh eggs is wonderful!  You've never truly tasted an egg until you eat one still warm from the nest box!  It does give one pause for thought when you watch the ladies eat bugs, rodents, and even small birds though!  Not for the squeamish!

I'm not so sure I could stand it, to see ladies doing that. So I might be squeamish then. I didn't think I was squeamish.

That's okay, it could have been about something far worse, like flat-earthism. Welcome to the forum!
