That first fellow's link was a nice thing to click on after just finishing our Rosary! I was looking for something to soothe my brain a bit more, and that was it.

I have known 3 or 4 very talented pipe organists, each with their own unique style, etc. I admire the skill and knowledge it takes to play such an instrument and laugh at the amount of timing and coordination it takes to master this. They all must have started young I would bet. Oh if only I had such an opportunity for music lessons!

The first fellow is playing very nicely, and this is a beautiful piece. I cannot stand when there is extensive "pounding" going on, or just as bad, when an organist drags out the very last note of a piece for 5 minutes at the end while in full "fog-horn" mode!

No offense to any Scottish or bagpipe fans but such notes remind me of certain bagpipe notes. (That to me is one instrument that can hurt my ears). 

It's totally amazing how instruments are made though. There was a video I came across awhile ago of how the inner workings of a piano work and how the notes are made. What a complicated and precise bit of engineering!

People have tried to bring out digital this, and digital that, but still, nothing compares to the sound produced from authentic instruments in places with amazing acoustics like large churches and cathedrals!

This is definitely something interesting and a little different to check out if you like organ music: De Grigny's 5 organ hymns. This is played on an original French organ built in 1775 that miraculously wasn't destroyed during the revolution.

De Grigny lived in France during the same time Bach was active in Germany, and much of his work used Gregorian Chant for themes. Basically, the chant is encoded into much of the organ music. This set included the Veni Creator, Ave Maris Stella, Pange Lingua, Verbum Supernum, and A Solis Ortus. Very overtly Catholic organ music. Apparently Bach got hold of one of De Grigny's manuscripts and was very impressed with what he saw.

Thinking of a few more... Johann Pachelbel is known today as a "one hit wonder" with the Canon in D, but the reality is that he wrote quite a bit more, and much of it is quite different from that piece. Here is a nice album of his organ music  played on an original 1741 organ in Germany:
