  • From True sources that cannot be denied.  It is from your local news
station. And they must be telling the truth, because you have been
brainwashed. If it is on TV, it must be true.

I want feedback from Gregg and his thumbs down brigade from ABLF

  • My feedback is to stop worrying.  I skimmed the video and they are merely a collection of statistically normal weather events.

Because reports are very easy to make and distribute and people can find and discuss the weather in Romania or Japan and watch video from several angles of tornados and storms the false impression they get is that the weather is getting "worse".

60 years ago weather was just as bad but nobody from outside of those countries knew or cared.  Perhaps the newspaper put a small story on the 31st page in foreign news without any pictures, because back then pictures were expensive to wire around the world.

In fact, there is no evidence to back this subjective view that the "weather is getting worse" with objective fact.  The internet is a excellent platform for grouping together worrywarts and allowing them to share their end of the world ideas with each other.

  • Best Comment in the comments section:

"Weather is not getting any worse. But the power and money gained by hyping it to poorly educated morons is definitely increasing.

Al Gore is now worth $100 million."

  • For believers, an apocalypse is a time of hope and regeneration — a time when the evils of the world are battled down, messiah figure sets things right and the chosen few get to enjoy a utopia.

“If you’re in a society where you’re feeling oppressed, where you feel persecuted, where you feel you’re the odd person out, it certainly is appealing to think that things could change radically, very quickly and you could become [among] the chosen ones,” said Christopher Helland, a professor of the sociology of religion at Dalhousie University in Halifax. “It’s the idea that the social order could be radically reversed or that things could be so altered and transformed that you’re going to come out on top.”

Historically, apocalyptic beliefs were held by the poor and disadvantaged, Mr. Dawson said. But that’s changed in modern times —believers now represent a cross section of society, including middle class and even well educated people.

He suggests believers might be experiencing “relative-deprivation” —a sort of subjective unsettlement in which they aren’t doing too badly, but feel somehow worse off than others. Then, there are the anxieties that come with changing modern times.

“Traditional grounds for people to trust that the world is a safe and secure place, that it’s a place that has meaning, are being undermined by these processes of de-traditionalization, globalization and heightened individualism,” he said. “And so people are increasingly feeling at loss as to how to gain a secure foothold, a sense of meaning in the world, a way of interpreting things.”

Part of the fascination with doomsday predictions is that followers continue to believe even when they fail, Mr. Dawson said. This only happens when there is strong leadership in a religious group and that leader has reasonable explanations for why the apocalypse didn’t come — much like Mr. Camping’s post-May 21 explanation that the end of the world had just begun in the spiritual realm; that the earthquakes and cloud-swallowing Rapture was another future stage of apocalypse. It’s standard cognitive dissonance in the face of refuting evidence, he said.

  • Ggreg,

You were told at the beginning that the source was not to be denied...   :roll-laugh2:

Now, these scare stories are usually just for entertainment's sake and not to be taken seriously at face value but the underlying message is a good one.  The message?  Simple.  Be prepared.  And live you life as a Catholic who could die at any time.  Do not allow yourself to remain away from the sacraments.

I think all these stories are put out there, at least some, to mock "preppers".

Catholics should not worry about asteroids, or mongoloids, or violent takeovers because a Catholic should worry about making a proper Act of Contrition and Act of Reparation and always to show devotion to Our Lord and to the Immaculate Heart of Our Lady.  Worrying about the collapse of the dollar is time spent wasted.  Prepare materially - yes.  But don't delay in getting yourself into the confessional.

  • If they say it on YouTube, and it is about the end of the world, it must be true!

Never mind all of the other YouTube videos that have been posted about coming calamities that never came true . . .

There is a lot more truth on Youtube than TV. At least with Youtube, you still have freedom to navigate and discern what is true and what is not... Sure, there is a lot of trash and disinformation on Youtube, but there are also good contributions, too, and it's up to you to do the research and find the true, edible sources of information. TV, on the other hand, is a completely controlled medium that is diabolical. There is no freedom to access truth, because there is no truth on TV. It's a complete mind control, social engineering, soul killing device. It's poison in kool-aid.
Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight, and my fingers to war. ~ Psalms 143:1 (Douay-Rheims)
