  • How do you say, "Get behind me, Satan", in Ecclesiastical Latin? Please post the phonetic spelling of the pronunciation, too. Thanks.

  • That comes from St. Matthew 16:23.

So we would use St. Jerome as the canonical text:

    Vade post me Satana.

Pronounciation just like it looks.  Accent on first syllable except that I guess Satana would have the accent on the last syllable, since it's from the Greek, but I'm not 100% sure.

    a - like in "father"
    o - like in "ocean"
e - close to the e in "they" (but a bit shorter)
v - like "v" in very (with ecclesiastical pronounciation)

  • Vah-day post may sa-ta-nah
So do all who live to see such times but it is not for them to decide, all you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.

  • Someone getting on your nerves?  Need something new to yell at NYC taxi drivers?  I got flipped the bird and cut-off for the first time in a long while yesterday.  The phrase will come in hand.
