  • Just in case anyone has missed this -- there was a 6.2 magnitude quake in central Italy this AM.

Here is a news link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/24/italy-quake-64-magnitude-tremor-rocks-perugia/

Norcia is near the epicenter of the Quake.

Wondering if anyone knows if the Benedictine Monastery at Norcia was impacted by it?

I have not been able to find out how the Monastery fared in this~~~~

    Any word would be appreciated~~~

Also, evidently, aftershocks are being experienced in Rome from the quake.

  • Oh, my!!!

I realize that I stated as the title for this topic the date of August 23 for the Italian earthquake.  It was really August 24 in Italy when the quake struck!

I keep sensing that the quake in Norcia was a harbinger of some kind --

and now we hear of another quake ~~~~

I recently discovered a relatively new set of youtube videos about the 3rd Secret of Fatima and the failure of the Vatican to release the entire 3rd Secret.

I'm putting the links here below.

With the recent continued devastation of Catholic moral teaching regarding the family, due to the "shake-ups" in the Vatican organizations that oversee family life, it seems that all of this is connected ~~~

    From the Norcia Benedictines:

    Dear Friends,

Many of you have by now heard of the earthquake that struck us during the night. The quake was a powerful one with a magnitude of 6.2. We’ve taken the past few hours to assess the situation.

First: We are OK. We are alive, and there are no serious injuries to report. Sadly, there are many injuries to report among the people of the region, especially those in small mountain villages. Please pray for them. We monks will do what we can to contribute here on the ground, but we’ll need your spiritual support in a special way during this period.

Second: We, as many others in Norcia and surrounding areas, suffered a lot of damage to our buildings and especially to our basilica. It will take some time to assess the extent of the damage, but it is very sad to see the many beautiful restorations we’ve made to St. Benedict’s birthplace reduced, in a moment, to disrepair.

Third: What can you do? Please, pray for us, for those who have lost their lives, who have lost someone they love, who have lost their homes and livelihoods. We will need your help, as always but now in a special way, to start the project of rebuilding. Please consider making a gift to help us get started.

    The Monks of Norcia

It's also interesting to note that seventeen years before Mount Vesuvius erupted, a powerful earthquake caused widespread damage in Italy.

If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • It looks like they're temporarily relocating.

    Quote
After a careful study of the developing seismic situation in our region of Italy, as a precautionary measure, we have decided to temporarily transfer our community to Rome.

The monks of the international Benedictine headquarters at St. Anselmo in Rome have kindly offered our monks a place to remain during this period of uncertainty.  We would be grateful if you added the monks of St. Anselmo to your prayers for their generosity during our time of need.

While the community is in Rome, two monks will remain in Norcia to keep watch over the basilica and monitor the developing situation. They will avoid danger by sleeping in tents outside the city walls.

We strive to maintain the order of the Rule even during the most difficult of circuмstances, and this transfer, while disruptive, will ensure the safety of our monks and grant us all the peace to continue to practice our monastic life.

Please continue to pray for our community, and consider giving a gift (https://en.nursia.org/donations/) to help our effort to rebuild.

Do you or does anyone know the name of the priest who gave these talks on the 3rd Secret?

I think they are quite well done.

I checked back on all 6 episodes and in the viewer comments area several ask what the priest's name is and there is no answer.  I got "Rapid City" from the second video, near the beginning, when the speaker mentions, "...here in Rapid City."  Seems like that must be South Dakota.  Perhaps someone from that area knows who the priest was. He gave a mission and was from out of the area.  These videos are recordings of his mission sermons during that week.

He has a bit different style of asking questions about Fatima that shows how the "official" or "party line" doesn't add up.  Then he turns around and calls JPII "Saint John Paul II." Maybe he's trying to stay out of trouble or something.
