Can't Remove Window Screens

  • I need to replace the mesh in some window screens of my new place.  However, these screens seem to be permanent or at least unlike others I have encountered.  There are no visible pins, tabs, springs, etc.  They can't be removed from the outside because of an encasement.  There are what appear to be tabs at the top but I can't pull the screens out.  The brand is Apollo 94-2.  Anyone have any ideas of how these come out, it they do?  Thanks.

  • I can’t help you with the screens, but those white vinyl spindles on your porch will brake and they are just like the ones I have. It took me a while to find the replacements, but here they are:

  • ItsIt's hard to tell from the pictures. More angles and a view of all sides, from both the inside and outside, might help. Mine are also permanent, but can be unscrewed from the outside.

The screen itself appears to be held in by a black rubber gasket pressed into a groove. The ends are in the upper left corner of your picture. Pull out that gasket, and the screen comes off. I don't know how you remove the frame, but you can cut new screen and attach it with the gasket.

  • Yep.  Look on the outside.  These could be the storm window type of screens where you remove them from the outside.  I had to replace a few of those at a previous home I owned that had those.

  • Upon closer inspection I have discovered they are fixed and the window sash has to be disassembled to remove.  Unbelievable....these are on bedroom windows.  How would you escape a fire?

  • By punching out the screen. Safety wasn't top priority back then.
