  • If I may, I'll start off the discussion on gas prices here.  Perhaps we could periodically post local prices in this thread.

As of today (04-Jan-2008), I saw a mix of prices, hovering around the mid-3.20s (USD).

What are the prices like by you?

  • Here in south Texas, prices shot up about 20 cents in the last few days (about when oil hit $100 a barrel -- a new record).

A week ago, regular unleaded was about $2.68 or so. Now it's $2.89 at the same station!

It's gonna get ugly I'm afraid. I'm just glad I have some experience (or a head start) at being frugal -- and also glad that we're not in debt. Some people aren't going to be able to cope as well financially when everything doubles in price.

That's why we need to share tips/tricks on shopping, recipes, where to get good deals, you name it.

  • Matthew,

You make some good points, and I'm glad that we'll be able to share.  One thing I forgot to mention:  If anyone has forgotten, I'm based in Chicago.

  • It's about $3.10 here in Detroit. If the economy collapses, COMMUNITIES and FAMILIES will HAVE to help each other out.

  • Very true -- and the greatest bond is the Catholic Faith, which is why I think we Catholics should share our experiences, etc. and help each other survive this coming turmoil.

There is so much to study/learn/explore/experiment with, and so little time to do so. That's why we need to avoid duplicating our efforts. We need to work smarter, not so much so we can work less, but so that we'll have enough time to do the work we need to survive. Because we can't afford to "learn the hard way" or "guess and test" at this late stage in the game.

So often, to save money means to spend more time. But suppose someone could give you the best, most efficient way to do X, which will cost you the LEAST amount of time, to get that $ savings? Information is power. Let's share the power!

Right now, the Internet still works (Deo gratias!)
