I play the piano and the organ well, and I am trying to teach myself how to play the alto recorder at the moment. I'm also trying to find someone to teach me how to play a Vietnamese instrument that is sort of like a violin with only one string. I think that I may try to teach myself guitar as well. I've also played a real harpsichord once!  :smirk:

Does anyone else play anything or sing?

only one string!? how many different notes can it play?
I play the keyboard as well Spouse, and I like to make up stuff sometimes too. The most complicated song I know is Moonlight Sonata. I don't practice all that much anymore. I can play one tune on the bass guitar, but only because my friend showed me. I also bought a metal flute for 12 bucks at a rummage sale. I've learned the basic fingering, but I haven't taken the time to learn any songs yet. I should learn yankee doodle or something, lol.

A lot actually! I have a CD of some music for it. I'll try to upload one of the pieces.

  • I tried out the recorder in 4th grade but I couldnt get a feel for it then nor now, so I should probably forget about the flute and oboe, and probably wind instruments in general. What I can get a feel for is the Spanish guitar, mandolin or lute, piano, organ, and drums. Drums are a natural to me and are pretty easy. I dont have any instruments of my own (except an electric guitar). What I do is just tap or slap the desk or whatever and make random beats. Actually I mostly do that with my boots on a wood floor. So since I dont listen to rock anymore I compensate for it in intense rythms. I wish I had one of those big Taiko drums!

  • I used to play both the piano and the trumpet when I was in Elementary and in Jr. High.

  • I guess you could say that I can't really play any instrument, if by that you mean play it properly. Can I play tunes on anything? Yes. I LOVE the keyboard, and can play by ear, but... I can't play with two hands for the life of me (or at least I haven't made the attempt enough to overcome my inability). But I have a keyboard, and very much enjoy playing it anyway. I hope that eventually I can record music onto the computer though. For one thing, it's very difficult to find good Christmas music around the holidays, even if you DO have money to buy it with.

I think I've finally located a midi cable though, so... hopefully I can try that out some day.

I also very much enjoyed playing the guitar, but... not knowing really how to take care of it, I had to part with it. I'd love to learn just about any instrument, really. I can also get music out of a clarinet. My ocarina skills need work though...

Anyone looking for an interesting instrument to pick up, I think this is the site that has all kinds of international instruments:
