The crew cabin probably survived the explosion but immediately lost cabin pressure at very high altitude. Investigators had data that suggests that perhaps three of the astronauts initiated their emergency oxygen supply, but without any backup parachute system it plunged into the sea at 200 mph killing any possible survivors on impact.
