I once heard it put that no man can live without kneeling. If he doesn't kneel to a God, he'll merely kneel to something else.
No one believes in God anymore, or the end of time, or in preparing their soul for their end.
So, you get these people compelled to prepare for 'an end' but they don't know why, why they feel a hole in their heart they can never fill with 2 years of freeze dried food, or 4 years, or thousands of rounds of ammo, thousands of gallons of water. They still never feel 'ready'.
Because they're not. They've done nothing for their soul, they've just stacked canned goods.
You get them never feeling 'whole' or with a sense or purpose toward a final end, so they prep, prep, prep endlessly.
They lack the closeness of God through the Eucharist, so they feel like they're missing something or are perpetually insecure.
They replace this insecurity with the security of food, water and ammo, but watching such shows you can see it is endless!
I'm not against prepping inherently (as anyone who has read enough of my posts would know), but one has to prepare spiritually as well, and lacking that there's not enough freeze dried chili mac in the world. While *with* it, you need only the clothes on your back.
