Just lost power for another 30 min, from 9:10 - 9:40.We are so sorry for your suffering. We will pray for you and all those suffering.
Water is completely out now.
It's difficult to cope with disasters that hit you from all sides. Should I work on getting some power, some heat, some water, or getting some milk and groceries? Some of these are near impossible to "solve" right now, too. Mail has been cancelled for days. Last time we got mail was Saturday, and it looks like it will be close to a week before they deliver mail again.
The novelty has DEFINITELY worn off. As far as I'm concerned, Good-bye snow, good-bye cold, and good riddance!
I just can't wait for this whole "arctic disaster" to be over. Bring on the 110 degree highs and 3 months without a drip of rain. At least Texas infrastructure can handle those things!
Even when this is over it won't be over -- then we'll have to see what long-term damage was done. Did any of our trees die? I'll probably be needing to plant new blueberry bushes and/or blackberry bushes. Those things can only handle so many deep freezes in a row. I hope none of our pipes are damaged.
I wonder if there is attempt from government to make it worse- why rolling blackouts? That was being done in California for different reasons. I never understood why. if the grid is still intact, why the need to shut it down ( to save power)? Doesn't make sense to me.I am not an electrical engineer but I have friends who are, including one who managed the local grid for the Snohomish County (WA) Public Utility District, so I've had a bit of exposure to the issues involve, and there are two principal ones.

For those who are "prepping," it's not a bad idea to just cut your power and try to live like that for 24 hours. That will let you know best what you really need and what you're short on. We had our power cut some time ago by a wind storm, and we noticed some obvious gaps in our supplies. There are things you don't think of until you need them.Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. I have been through like 20+ hurricanes, and on each one you learn that this or that should have been done. As time goes by you get better and better at preparing and there are fewer holes in the preparations.
According to a mainstream mєdια report I read earlier today, the rolling blackouts is because Texas has become pretty reliant upon windmills to produce a portion of their energy and the snow and ice is preventing the windmills from operating. Much of the problem really is man-made.Would those be Don Quixote windmills?
Does anybody else here think that this whole "power outage" is another move by the ɠƖobaƖısts?---"Darkest Winter"?Yes. I do.
I have a hard believing that the power companies can't keep up with the demand.
"you consume too much"
"we need limits on how much power you are allowed to use"
"we need to control you more"
"you are a burden on the earth"

My Family in Houston is still without power.
Thank you everyone for your prayers.👍👍👍
Things started looking up in the second half of Thursday.
Thursday around noon the power came back on -- and didn't go off again. I think that's when we started to get water pressure back too. Long-awaited showers were taken.
Friday morning after wife's postpartum doctor visit, we stopped at the grocery store -- took some apocalyptic pictures that looked like scenes from a disaster movie, and it was quite busy -- but at least no lines to get in, and they had milk, butter, eggs. No cheese except for ricotta and a couple bags of shredded swiss. We drove away with 8 gallons of milk total, plus other things including enough "main courses" for several meals. So now we can last until things get more normal -- after the majority of the population gets caught up with their grocery shopping, refilling their empty larders.
So the locals may have empty pantries, fridges, and freezers, and the trucks can't drive fast enough to restock all the stores -- but at least we're on the path to normal.
By Friday afternoon virtually all the roads around here were pretty much clear thanks to some warm temps -- the mid 30's -- and some Texas sun.
Friday night was the last trip into freeze-ville (low in the low-20's)
Today (Saturday) the high was 61 and the low is 42. Tomorrow (Sunday) will be even warmer: high of 70, low 40. That is actually normal for this time of year.
We uncovered our plants today -- time will tell how they did.
You mentioned that the water was off.Only the toilets that use water.
Does that mean the toilets wouldn't work either?
Only the toilets that use water. :facepalm:Indeed! There are several toilet and urinal systems that don't use water, and the better ones are odor free. Search "composting toilets" and "waterless urinals" or "water free urinals" for more information.
Only the toilets that use water. :facepalm:LOL. I see.
LOL. I see. This is a good question. Frankly, I don't know what would happen with a toilet that is hooked up to a city sewer system.
Can you still flush them by dumping water in them?
How do people get by?
LOL. I see.
Can you still flush them by dumping water in them?
Look at this as a wake-up call. People are only 1-3 days out from starving...When did this become "normal"?!

Yes those are a good idea.
Not if the water is frozen!
Conventional toilets use / waste (pun intended) lots of water. Composting toilets are an ideal option where water is precious or you are off grid.

I have no experience with composting toilets. Though I have seen one in use.

What would people in apartments do?
I have no experience with composting toilets. Though I have seen one in use.Gosh, so how did people get by in Texas last week without toilet use?
I don’t think they would be practical in an apartment.
I did a search on this website and found this one which says “sits directly on the bathroom floor and needs emptying every two weeks.
Remember the old movies where you would see someone emptying the chamber pot out the window on to the street below! :(

Gosh, so how did people get by in Texas last week without toilet use?Good questions.
Did they use their backyards?
What about the apartment dwellers?
Gosh, so how did people get by in Texas last week without toilet use?We filled a couple of buckets when water was beginning to fail... later we melted snow since we were fortunate to have power most of the time.

We filled a couple of buckets when water was beginning to fail... later we melted snow since we were fortunate to have power most of the time.Wow. What a pain. So you used the water to flush the toilet then? Or did you use a bucket as a toilet?
.
We do also have the sawdust in a bucket option on hand, but things didn't get that desperate for us personally.
Governor Greg Abbott requested statewide designation for major disaster relief from President Biden. Biden denied the statewide designation and only approved some counties in Texas, not all of them. Abbott asked for a declaration that covered the entire state because the winter storm knocked out power and heat throughout the state, as well as leaving millions of Texans without water.Source: thegatewaypundit.com
Texas has 254 counties. Biden approved only 77 counties for disaster relief.

Texas was barely five minutes away from a complete power grid failure. If there's truly a desire out there for ѕєcєѕsισn, they have a lot to fix. Otherwise, they'll be independent at noon and cartel property by dinnertime.
The Texas Disaster Explained in Under 3 MinutesThat was a good video. And in just 3 minutes! Highly recommended.
But take three minutes out of your day and get informed about the powerful forces behind the human suffering. Unless people start watching this and other videos before they get deleted, you and your loved ones remain uninformed and at risk.
