  • There is a lot of truth to this. I could only glance at the article, many have told me that I should try to take milk away from my sons. It does harm their health. A while back I was buying rice milk for them. They liked it and it seemed fine. Then with rising costs and growing boys that is not an option at this time.
There is also a growth hormone added to all milk. That is very harmful, mainly to boys.
I bet Parents for Truth knows more than I do.

  • It seems to me that milk is for babies of spices, not for adults.
Only human beings insist on having it in their adulthood.

  • I've heard the same thing -- "humans are the only species that, in adulthood, suckle from another species."

But looking at it from a more religious perspective (as opposed to a Darwinist, scientific one):

Man has drank milk from various animals for centuries. It's one of those "natural foods" that goes back to the cradle of civilization. I doubt people drank 4 glasses a day or anything, but it was certainly used by adults.

  • There's a lot to look into there, but it appears from looking at the main nomilk.com site, the people are vegans (people that only eat plants), lactose intolerant people (a cause of that is exposure to milk at too early an age, thank you formula  :really-mad2: ), are animal rights activists ( :cussing: )and are casein intolerant (the part of milk when it's made into whey.)

There's so much wrong with the food supply in general. I drink organic milk here, and have no problems. The children love it, and have no digestive or behavioral problems from it, and we haven't been ill in two years (except for that stomach bug during Christmas, and I blame the Christmas pageant when we were all packed like sardines into a room and people were sitting too close together... pretty obvious for germs to jump from person to person in that circuмstance.)

All I can say, is that on my end, there's no issue. We eat organic/non GMO here as much as we can on one income, and thank God we can.

I don't have the patience to refute the vegans et al. I just pray that I'm doing the right thing as far as milk is concerned, and the rest of the food, there's no doubt.

This is a watchdog organization making sure that the Organic label on milk is really organic. It has a scoring system to show how organic a label of milk really is.

Notice, if you look, the failing grade on some of the milk, one, is Horizon "organic." Yucky.

I get milk from local farmers around my area. They're not certified organic, because of one field that is sprayed by hand with a pesticide because the field is near the river here, and there's some pest that comes in and tries to destroy the crops, but they don't mass spray it. They do it as needed in the area where it specifically warrants. Since that's mixed with the other non-GMO feed, (and the feed that is sprayed is non-GMO as well ) they can't label it organic, but for all intents and purposes, it is organic.

Really it depends on the source where you're getting it from.. if you can trust the farmer, you can get away with non certified organic milk. The milk for sure has the no rBGH poison sticker on it. I talked to the delivery man, who gets the milk fresh on Tuesdays and delivers it fresh to my door every week, from that very morning.

                                    ^^ Milk

If you wanted the organic milk, they would have that too, only it's $4.78 a HALF gallon. Um... to me, feeding four (and one on the way) children and a husband good milk, that price is a bit steep.

This milk I get is also in glass bottles (just like old times :) ) so it naturally tastes better without the plastic.

Still checking on that website, but it sure looks to me like the PETA/Vegan/casein free people getting their undies in a bundle.

So, uhh is Braum's milk healthy?

    http://www.braums.com/whatsnew.asp?id=94
    http://www.braums.com/

    From their website: http://www.braums.com/FAQ.asp#1

    Q. Why is Braum's milk so much better than what you buy in the supermarket?

    A. Braum's raises our own herd of over 10,000 holstein dairy cows and milks each cow several times a day on the family farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Most companies buy raw milk from outside sources so that by the time the raw milk is delivered for processing, it's already several days old. At Braum's it may take only 24 hours to get the milk from the cow to your neighborhood Braum's store. It doesn't get any better than that! Braum's special processing system fortifies the reduced fat, low fat and fat free milk naturally by concentrating it, making our milk richer, thicker, and better-tasting! For more information visit Buy The Best and Tour The Dairy.

Viewing the tour, it looks like a big corporate farm, but I guess to make sure, you could take a tour of one of their farms to check it out.

Here's where I get my milk from:

    http://www.dairylandsbest.com/

I get it delivered fresh right to my door on the day it's milked, and the delivery man also delivers milk from organic farms like this one:

    http://www.sassycowcreamery.com

    And this one:

    http://www.wiorganics.com/

The Dairyland's Best has an awesome reputation, and if there was a significant difference between these organic milks and the milk from Dairyland, he would surely tell me, as he would be making an extra buck or two per gallon off me. I get five gallons of milk per week from him in glass containers.

You really have to check into things to be sure of the quality of what you're getting. From looking at Braun's from my perspective, it appears to be a corporate farm. Best way to get it is local, from farms with a good reputation, although, it appears Braun has a decent rep from their website, but as I said, best thing you can do is check into the farms yourself.

  • I am jealous of Parentsfortruth I have to say - I would so love to live in an area where milk is brought to the doorstep in bottles for an affordable rate - all I have available is  expensive raw milk that I can't  get without driving at least an hour once a week (and I can't afford that).

  • If anyone has  an Amish population close by, they might be willing to sell you raw milk at a low cost.  Most of the problems with milk are related to pausterization and not the dairy itself.Don't let the crazy vegans fool you. :)

  •  There is a lot of truth in what Dave Rietz (who has passed after a bout with prostate cancer, may God rest his soul) says about milk here. HOWEVER, many of his claims are grossly exaggerated, and laced with half truths. There is most certainly an agenda behind his campaign, an agenda congruent with that of animal rights activists like his friend who writes articles like this:

    http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/notmilk/message/628

Yes, there are some nasty horomones in milk, especially the grocery store variety. I don't touch the stuff, ever- not after discovering the harm it can do to your body. This article gives a brief but clear explanation of what pasteurization does to milk, and how it is harmful for your digestive system. Read the section that is italicized.

    http://www.foodrenegade.com/the-basics/real-milk/

As far as discovering more in depth the benefits of non-homoginized milk, doing some research on your own will clue you in really fast to it's goodness. :)

I am lucky to have all of the milk I want, straight from my parents cow. Non-homoginized cow milk has many great benefits that outweigh the negatives. Don't let the crazies scare you away from the good milk. :)

Also, I think it's worth mentioning- raw goat's milk has more benefits than cow's milk. If you have a chance to get your hands on some of that, do it! Again, I am blessed to have access to goat's milk because my parents milk the goat every morning and evening as well. :)

  • How nice to have such great access to fresh milk, Jen!

I'm glad I didn't care for milk much as a kid because all my parents bought was full of bovine growth hormones.

I don't think I've ever drank goat milk.

I do like almond milk in my coffee when I can find a good coupon.  :)

  • Yeah, I didn't care for it growing up either. In fact, I hated it! It made me gag. Especially white milk. I could stomach the chocolate milk, though. I guess my taste buds changed, because now I love it. :)

And I drink almond milk like it's going out of style. Do you have a Whole Foods Market near you? It's almost $1.00 cheaper there than at regular super markets. That's the case here in Kansas City, anyway. I know a dollar doesn't seem like much, but it adds up for me, and I gather it does for you as well.
