  • I heard that there are online programs that you can use to scan your computer for viruses. Does anyone have a link? I am so useless when it comes to computers. I have McAfee installed on my computer but for some reason the scan never gets completed - it will just stop at 78% or 80% or something like that. It's only completed itself made one or two times. And that was when it was first installed. My successive attempts to scan my computer have all ended with the scan being frozen.

  • I've had pretty good success with Avast free anti-virus software. Equally, I also run Microsoft's malware and virus removal tool, which is also free. It does a pretty thorough job. Just a few days ago, it caught and removed a serious and medium threat on my computer. Just go to their site to download the software applicable to the system you are running (Windows 8, 7, XP, etc). They have a short and complete scan. The complete scan takes a lot longer, but it's a good idea to run it if you think your computer might be infected.

Eset is fantastic, but there's a fee.
But here is a one time free scan.
