  • It seems to be the custom at many Novus Ordo parishes to bring forth a basket of "offerings" at their "Offertory". I couldn't help but notice for the past few weeks there has been a generous amount of toilet paper rolls in the basket!!!!

Yes quite a fitting offering to lift up to Almighty God at Holy Mass.

  • Could come in handy: Many Novus ministers could use the tp to wipe the excess from around their mouths that gets left there after they give their homilies.

Forgive me for posting in this forum, as I am not a teen but when I saw the topic title I had to see what this was all about.

It has only been 6 years since I last witnessed a Novus Ordo service, but I have absolutely no idea what this is talking about.  Just what are people bringing things in for?  Is this in place of a monetary donation, perhaps because there are many unemployed parishioners?

In any event, I think it should be pointed out that the Novus Ordo does not have an "Offertory".  Their liturgical books tell us it is the "Preparation of the Gifts", that is, it is the time for their grace before supper.

  • I'm aware the NO doesn't have an Offertory, but that is what they call this. It takes place during the "Prep. for Gifts", while they are collecting the money.

A family usually brings up bread and wine from the back of the church and a basket of "offerings" which include food items, the collected money baskets, and in this case toilet paper.

It may just be this particular parish since they seem to operate on a different schedule from all other NO churches I've seen.
