Sounds like a typically slanted comment.

Men - in general - are decried as being dishonest, and that's compared to women's use of make-up. A simplistic statement that makes women out to be victims.

Maybe the truth is that women prefer unscrupulous men, whereas men prefer chaste women, so women fall for liars, and men fall in love with a lie.

As for the idea that women don't fall for appearance. That's just nonsense.

Unfortunately Matthew that statement, although a generalization and obviously an exaggeration, worded dramatically for memorability and effect, is backed by evidence as a tendency of one over the other.

I've also heard "Women fake smiles. Men fake emotions." But that doesn't really make any sense. Isn't faking a smile faking happiness, which is an emotion?

Only when a woman is older is it shocking. Make-up starts to become dishonest when it tries to become a way of presenting women on the cusp of spinsterhood as though they were young maidens.

Wrong. Even models can sometimes look shocking when someone sees them with the make-up off. If you only put a little make-up then there won't be such a drastic change. But if you put a lot like Pamela Anderson then it will be a shock to see them without it.

It is permissible for women to use makeup to improve flaws and attract a husband or keep the one they have. It's a sin when it's gaudy and whory. Stay away from the land of the pharisees.

Read what I wrote. If it is a little bit, then nothing wrong. If it is as much as Pamela Anderson or as much as some women put when they go all decked out to a club ( where it takes them 1 1/2 hours to put it on) then that is a lie. That is why a women sometimes calls putting on make-up " putting on my face" because it's almost like she's putting on a new face. Someone told me that they once saw the most beautiful girl they had ever layed eyes on at a club. Well, turns out this gorgeous gal was a guy. Make-up can turn a man into a woman and there are many women who put on as much make up as this guy did.

I agree with Alex. Make up is an art form, a form of human expression, and it's not intrinsically wrong but depends on cultural norms and the context in which it is used. I would draw the line clearly on mutilation of the body, such as tattoos and piercings, as being immoral because the body is a temple of God and should be left intact. Plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons is equally wrong, but I think if it is corrective for functional problems like cleft lip, or after burns, and so on, then it is therapeutic and therefore moral.

If the intention of a woman wearing make up is to deceive, then she is lying, just as saying something, be it true or false, but with the intention to deceive, is lying.

Too much make-up can make a woman's skin wrinkle sooner than normal. I know of a girl who started using lots of make-up especially on her eyes from her teen years. She is now 24 I think, but the area around her eyes are full of little wrinkles like a 50 year old woman.
Heavy make-up damages you, don't do it.

I always thought the purpose of make up was to look more attractive, than you might be without it. I'm not sure I'd call that "deception." Actually, I think that's kind of a weird way to put it. I'd think of it as trying to make yourself look good. On that point though, I think you'd have to be blind and quite ignorant of history, to not have noticed the dramatic change in look, from modest to "turning up the heat."

I hope you are not putting models on a pedestal. I think this should be rephrased to say, "even models can sometimes look ok."

If you want to see ugliness then look at a model. I don't advise it. Just imagine a potato sack hung on a skeleton and there you have it.

I see more beautiful women everyday walking through the city than you do on a cat walk or on the front of a magazine.

Ugliness is the new beauty.
