  • Okay, there may be some cities where people see things like this. But most of us won't. I'm talking about street performers. And while it's one thing to get out there and do something not just everyone can do, it's a whole different thing to do it WELL.

In Japan, street performers aren't rare, and they're out there doing all kinds of wild and crazy things, often in equally crazy costumes. Needless to say, with so many of them out there, some of them are pretty darn good.

Here's some guys from Japan who do (at least occasionally) street shows or street performances, for no charge, just to get out there and do their thing. And some of these guys are even well known internationally in the field of their art.

WARNING: Some videos are best paused and allowed to load through. The Japanese site ones will lag horribly otherwise.

    1.  Artist: MASAKI  Art: Contact juggling (constant ball contact)
Comment: If you think it's that easy, YOU try it!

    MASAKI

    2. Artist: Senjyu  Art: Juggling, diabolo
Comment: This guy gets some serious altitude with whatever he plays with.

    3. Artists: ????
Artist A:  (Possibly Masaki in costume? Cameo appearance.) art: Contact juggling
Artist B: (The performer) Art: "mirror hoop" (Contact Hoop?) & Contact Juggling (not shown)
Comment: Ok, perhaps not QUITE as technically impressive as some of these other guys but... check out the costumes!

    Mystery Men (Artists unknown)

    4. Artist: Mr. Bad  Art: "animation" (think "robot")
Comment: If you thought the robot was out of style, just head over to Japan, where not only is it not dead, but seems to turn up just about everywhere. Also I would like to add, I think this guy has more joints in his body than any normal human being should... And a very interesting wardrobe. PS, the shirt he keeps flashing says Mr. Bad on it. lol I guess that's one way to advertise...

    Mr Bad

    5. Artist duo: ???? Art: dance/"animation"/("poppin" ??)
Comment: And if that last guy wasn't enough, here are two more just like him.

    Dance Duo

    6. Artist: Unknown  Art: Animation
Comment: They get pretty creative with their props, too...

    Animation - Matches

    7. Artist group: ????  Art: Swordplay?
    Comment: Two words... street... samurai...

    The street samurai

    8. Artist: Yuta   Art: (LED) poi, dance
Comment: SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST!!
This guy is an incredible poi artist, who is actually internationally known among worldwide indie poi-ers. Something of an indie celeb. This performance is about half dance, and half LED poi. But really shows his skills. Unfortunately you cant see him well, but poi is something best appreciated in the dark.

    9. Artists: Yuta again. (The shirtless guy) And Nick (funkey pants). Art: Fire poi
Comment: Okay, here's the REAL deal... (Pardon the corny movie part) lol But both of these guys are pretty amazing. Though, Nick is obviously not from Japan...

    10. Artist: Ryo Yabe   Art: diabolo (world champion?)
Comment: Okay, so he dropped one. But he's still pretty darn good.
