I miss living in a small town!  Leading story from today’s news! I used to shop here.

TOWN OF WATSON, New York (WWNY) - The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help identifying the owner of a riding lawn mower found abandoned in the Town of Watson.
Deputies responded to an address near the Bradish Road and Austin Road intersection on a power line access road on July 11, 2026. There, they located what appeared to be a 2017 Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro Series riding lawn mower with a 42-inch deck.
Anyone missing the lawn mower is asked to contact the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office at (315) 376-3511.

Or to run some errands.

My MIL loves to tell the story about her grandmother who would ride around town on a riding lawnmower. She never did get a drivers license, but she would drive the mower everywhere. To the bank, to the post office, grocery store, etc. She had a trailer that would hook onto it just in case she needed to haul stuff. :laugh1: This of course was in a very small town.

My MIL also tells me all the time how much I remind her of her grandma and how we would have been best pals. I’m not sure how to take that but she’s probably right. :fryingpan:

I do love my small town. Last night a woman’s house burned to the ground, along with all of her possessions. The community rallied around her and are making sure all her needs are met by donation of physical items and monetary donations. It is heartening to witness.

LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) - A 20-pound block of sharp cheddar sold for $15,100 at the annual Lewis County Cheese Auction Tuesday, setting a new record and topping the previous mark by nearly $5,000.
The winning bid came from a group of local farmers, who then gave the prize cheese to the auctioneer, Joseph Bush, a volunteer who has served the event for 14 years.
“I haul livestock, I’ve done that most all my life in flat bed so for me that’s a great win because it’s nice to see the farmers and the community get together and actually buy and support the county back with the dairy industry building,” Bush said.
The price per pound came out to $750 for the cheddar block. Proceeds from the auction go back into the dairy industry building at the fairgrounds.
