  • It's amazing that some people are unable to do something that I do at least 150 times a day. I guess it's like "literacy" -- I read all the time and take it for granted, but some people are illiterate.

Anyhow, here is what I wrote:

To perform a "copy and paste", do the following:

    PART I - Copy
    1. Move your mouse cursor to the beginning of the text you wish to copy.
    2. Click (and hold) the LEFT mouse button.
    3. Drag your mouse cursor over the entire word or phrase (so it's "highlighted" in black or dark grey), then release the left mouse button.
    4. Leave the mouse cursor exactly where it is.
    4. Click your right mouse button, making the "context menu" appear.
    5. Move the mouse cursor to where it says"Copy" (make sure there is a dark grey bar over "Copy"), and click the LEFT mouse button.
(The text you selected is now stored in memory.)
    PART II - Paste
    6. Move your mouse cursor to the location you wish to insert the copied text -- this can be in just about ANY Windows program: your e-mail program, web browser address bar, Word docuмent, text file, etc.
    7. Click the RIGHT mouse button to bring up the "context menu".
    8. Move the mouse cursor to where it says"Paste" (make sure there is a dark grey bar over "Paste"), and click the LEFT mouse button.
(The text you copied in PART I should now appear in the spot you chose!)

Like with driving or any other skill, it becomes automatic after a while.
It actually took me several minutes to think up these individual steps, even though I perform the action of "copy/paste" about 150 times every day.

  • Yeah, I can vaguely remember learning stuff like that in High School.

Never really had a GUI OS at home before before I was in the middle of high school.

  • I would have gone with the Ctrl-C route. : )

    Same here.

    Ctrl C = copy
    Ctrl V = paste
