  • Communion Service The Holy Sacrifice of Mass

    I have never heard anyone confuse a communion service with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

    When I hear about partners I think of a business arrangement. (ie Williams Brothers, Smith and Jones)

    you have now.

    This happened to me at a 'mass" where the deacon decided to wear priest vestments and did the CS exactly as the mass. The only reason I caught on is because the only thing he did not do was consecrate the host. because I did know this deacon I assumed he was a priest. I had to do some research to discover what had happened.

    Ironically, a week later at another parish a deacon attended a CS and read a formal statement that read that no procedure could take place that would lead one to confuse a CS for a mass. And this deacon actually wore deacon vestments.

    The fake mass occurred back in May, I felt like reporting it- but thought our social justice bishop would not care anyway.

    Actually a true social justice bishop would care. To simulate a sacrament is a serious canonical offense.
    From the code of canon law;

    Can.  907 In the eucharistic celebration deacons and lay persons are not permitted to offer prayers, especially the eucharistic prayer, or to perform actions which are proper to the celebrating priest.

    Can.  929 In celebrating and administering the Eucharist, priests and deacons are to wear the sacred vestments prescribed by the rubrics.

  • Heh, Poche is right - nobody in the NO confuses communion services with Mass....Because Communion services are where nuns get to play like they are priests!

    In one of my old parishes, the nuns would fight over the right to do this.  Fr. knew he could never be more than 2 minutes late to any scheduled Mass...else he'd show up to find a nun starting the introductory rite!

    I got out.

    We have these nuns at a NO parish I go to. They make it a point to use inclusive language during our Mass. I say "our Mass" because this is hardly their parish- in their own convent they do a daily mass and they give communion to a protestant minister who for some reason is invited to attend.

    This has been going on for years and years, so of course the bishop must be aware of it- and his predecessor too. Someone asked me why I don't report things to the bishop, now you know. They don't care what the peons think.

    To be honest Crossbro, if i was a monk, i'd invite the protestant minister to tell him he's a heretic and that he's not welcome at my church

    Well, I have a story on that too, I was a at a Cistercian Monastery when a group of Angelicans showed up for Sunday Mass. There leader was a female 'priest' actually wearing a roman collar. No one seemed offended by this slight in the least.

    I don't recall if they received communion or not.

    How are they able to do "inclusive language" with the new missal?
