Title: How to scan a faint receipt
Post by: Telesphorus on May 18, 2013, 07:01:01 PM
I'm trying to get a good digital image of this 2011 receipt that I need to use, and I'm having trouble.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Take it to a copy machine and make the print darker.

My scanner always produces a faint image. (I don't know why ... it's old.) I open the image in Picasa and use the Auto Contrast and that usually fixes it sufficiently. You might have a similar program, but Picasa is free if you don't have something else.

I used a scanner and while it's still light it's dark enough I think that they can tell what it is.  I'm thinking I should probably call them.

The headphone cable of the HD598's that plugs into the phones themselves somehow lost the tip.  Either the tip is inside the phones or not.

The warranty is two years and the receipt says August 2011, so hopefully I can get them fixed for free.

This is the best I could do so far:

Someone else with more skill, if they could make it more legible with free software, let me know how you did it.

I go through headphones like water. The wire to the green plug in thing always comes apart.

I bought the model with a detachable cord to take good care of these, and until now I had luck.

unfortunately, religiously unplugging the detachable cord led the plug eventually breaking.

At least it's within the warranty period.

Good headphones are simply not comparable with cheaper ones.

I'm wearing $100 backup pair now, they're nothing like the $200 dollar pair.

cheap headphones are terrible for music.

You guys must be loaded to spend $200 on earphones? I buy the Samsung ones for my galaxy s3 on ebay for 10 bucks. They last forever and I use them for hours daily while I work.

If you can keep a pair in good condition and love music I highly, highly recommend audiophile headphones.  No matter how poor you are.

Many people have an idea that headphones should cost no more than a couple meals at a restaurant even though they can be used for thousands of hours.  I regret not going for the audiophile headphones sooners.

If I wasn't strapped for cash I would spend $2000, not $200.

The difference is mind-boggling.

Incidentally, my uncle loves Wagner and classical music, and I was travelling from one home to another so I had my headphones with me.  He tried them and was amazed by them.

Yet when I visited again the next year he still had the same pair as before.

Now it would be one thing if my aunt and uncle were poor: they're nothing of the kind.

However, she was raised a Quaker and sadly bosses him around.

A woman's (my Aunt's) idea of economy is letting her youngest son drive a red mustang (and wreck it) but making a husband get permission to spend a couple hundred bucks.

Even my mother told my brother to buy a newer car instead of an older one.  Although there is some sense in that (since he needs reliable transport), it's surprising she said that, given the old cars my parents have always driven for the past two decades.  He bought a 2012 chrysler convertible.

The point is, my brother was planning on buying an older, economical car, and my mother went out of her way to dissuade him.

It's very interesting.

I have tried the expensive ones and yes they sound nicer. I can'tjjustify spending that much though. Wife, kids, God take precedence. My son, who's 20 and makes a third of what I do has a fancy pair. He's not married though. Can I ask your age Tele?

If you can't afford it you can't afford it but $200 is not a great deal of money for hundreds of hours of beautiful sound.  I can't imagine our ancestors turning down such an opportunity in order to save a few bucks.

What's interesting about people's ideas of thrift is that they seem to depend more on custom than on reason.

I'm in my mid 30s.

It seems to me a lot of husbands and their purchases are probationary but women are given free rein to buy what they say they need.

I would say this is a total reversal of St. Paul's teachings, and it's sad to think it's probably not uncommon among trads.

Use Paint.Net and adjust the contrast.

I wasn't raised to spend money frivolously.
200 bucks is a llot of money. For some families, it'sa months ggroceries. I cannot justify that kind of expense. Besides, I love classical music and going to the symphony is more enjoyable than listening to mp3. Better use of money as far as I am concerned.

I can honestly say I've never spent money better than on good headphones.  Never have I gotten more for the money.  In buying "cheap" headphones I always got burned, since I typically broke them within a few months.

The dollar has lost a huge amount of value and groceries are very cheap compared to the old days.

A person who can afford to regularly go to the symphony, paying for the gas and ticket, can afford decent headphones.

If it's not your thing I understand.  It's just it's not a huge expenditure, and it's worth the money, in my estimation.

We'll agree to disagree.

Symphony tickets are 10 bucks each. Bought in advance. Transportation is free. I work for transit. Fun evening. Very cultural. Part of our catholic heritage.

For what it's worth, my son agrees with you.

Don't you own a $600 plasma TV when you don't watch TV?

Anyway,

I was just going to update the thread.

Sennheiser sent me a new pair of headphones, no charge.

Within a week of sending the broken pair in.

The TV is for the ps3 which I use to play movies. Sports games too. We got rid of our cable.

Glad everyone is holding me accountable.

It seems like most people even the most frugal, have something they splurge on a little.
