Title: High School - Then vs Now
Post by: Matthew on October 05, 2013, 12:48:42 PM
You may have seen this before, but we must be reminded from time to time of the insanity
that prevails today, and the fact that we have allowed it to continue and even increase.

            HIGH SCHOOL -- 1952 vs 2012
Scenario 1: Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack..

1952 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets
his shotgun to show Jack.  They talk about going rabbit hunting on Saturday.
2012 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees
his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for the traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:  Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1952 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2012 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are
both charged with assault and both expelled from school, even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:  Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1952 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He
then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2012 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD.
The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:  Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car  Dad gives Billy a
whipping with his belt, and makes him pay for replacing the window.
1952 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a
                       successful businessman...
2012 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse; Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang.
The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself, and
their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:  Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.
1952 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock..
2012 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is
then searched for drugs and weapons, a pocket knife is found, and the car is confiscated.

Scenario 6:  Pedro fails high school English.
1952 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2012 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that
teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit
against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from
core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living
                       because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:  Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July puts
them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.
                        1952 - Ants die.
2012 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic
terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents - and all siblings are removed from their home
and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list is never
                        allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:  Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is
found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1952 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2012 - Mary is accused of being a sɛҳuąƖ predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State
Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Sadly, the above scenarios are based on recent events and are essentially true.   The status of today's society is more irrational than it is laughable.  We have allowed the idiots, the do-gooders, and the emotionally driven, to take over the nation and set policy.   It will take more than a smile and wringing our hands to restore common sense and set things straight again.

 :applause:
Too bad we can't return to 1952.  But wait!  We'd have to be able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, divide, tell time on a clock with "hands," remember to wind up our wristwatches, tie shoe laces, knot ties, count actual money, make change, cook real food, drive a standard, go to Mass every Sunday, fast and do penance, er, what's that last thing?  Sigh!

You left off one other thing.
1952 - Johnny gets in trouble at school. He gets paddled. He keeps his puniishment a secret from his parents because he knows that if they find out he will be in more trouble at home.
2012 - Johnny gets in trouble at school. He gets paddled. He goes home and tells his parents. his parents sue the school.

This is based on something that really happened;
Then - The children take turns praying in school before lunch. Johnny, who is a Catholic, is rebuked by the teacher after he prays a Catholic prayer before lunch
Now - Johnny prays the same Catholic prayer before eating his lunch. Johnny is rebuked by the teacher for praying in school.

Poche, Johnny would NEVER, ever get paddled in a school in 2012.  It would hurt his self esteem which is more important than learning consequences for your actions.

Matthew, is Scenerio 3, not only would Jeffrey's parents get extra money from the government, but the school as well, because then he could be placed in Special Ed. which gets money on top of regular money.

That is why his parents sue the school.

OK, I forgot to say that Johnny would NEVER be paddled because it would hurt his self esteem, and the school is well aware that the parents would sue.  The school wouldn't dare touch Johnny for for these two reasons.

That is why the parents sued the school. And I forgot to mention that they called the police.

Are you saying that Johnny was paddled recently?  Paddling has been outlawed for lo these many years now - in all states, I believe.

We were comparing school in 1952 with school today.

Correct.
Today Johnny would never be paddled for those 2 reasons.
You posted that he Was paddled today.  That would never happen.

I was decsribing the contrast of what would have happened if he was. In 1952 he would have done his best to make sure that his parents did not find out that he was paddled or he would be paddled or punished in some similar way when he got home. If that were to happen today, Johnny would run home crying. The parents would call the police and sue the school for a huge ammount of money.

In the 'olden days' we were taught how to punctuate & spell.
Not taught so much this generation, sadly.

I remember if you got punished in school for a good reason, you did not
dare tell your parents.  They will back up the Teacher and the School,
and punished you again.
My 7th grade school teacher, used a bamboo stick, and exiled you
for the remainder of the school day in the class room closet.
Parents and the Nuns were very supportive of his actions. Never a
complaint.
The School year was 1961-1962.

Being beaten with a truncheon would do you a world of good "dude", perhaps then you would learn to show respect to your betters.

I have dealt with it very well, Dude.

Had a wonderful fun-filled childhood; interesting, adventure filled later life making enough money to have fun & travel.  Then the modern days came with its high taxes that took away my money, no more travel & less fun all the way around. People became uncivil not only to their peers but also to their elders - something rare back then. More, much more, rape, murder, theft & all manner of uncleanness and God is not only a has-been in many lives but actually blasphemed & spat upon.

Then of course there's the young-uns who can't punctuate, spell or think of anything but video games who think they know everything.

I see now that my first assessment of you was correct. You are a troll. The picture of Schopenhauer should have told me, if you were really as thick-headed as you're making yourself out to be you wouldn't have him as your "avatar" as it's called, as you wouldn't have the slightest idea regarding who he was. You would have chosen eminem or some such person instead. Anyhow keep it up, work assiduously & you may well one day become a master troll, right now you're still only an apprentice.

Eminem is a horrible rapper. Why would I put him as my avatar? MF DOOM is pretty good though.

Also I'm not a troll.
