  • If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • I love this thread too.

But I could completely do without the Catholic apologetics or "extra ecclesiam nulla salus" ones. Thus far, they are 0 for 100 in getting a smile out of me much less a chuckle, seriously. They are too esoteric.

It's like joking about quantum theory. Maybe some could find humor in particle physics -- not me.

Schrödinger's cat walks into a bar. And doesn't.
    .....

A Higgs Boson particle walks into a Catholic Church. The priest asks it to leave.  "But you can't have mass without me," it objects.
    ....
    Q. What do you know about quantum mechanics?
    A. Nothing . I don't even know anybody who drives a Quantum.

(Sorry, Matthew, just had to check for myself that you are not amused.)

Actually, these kind of jokes entered my mind as I wrote the above post, and actually they are NOT what I was talking about. Everyone knows the basic Schrodinger's cat, for example, so it's mainstream humor. Most people would get it.
And these jokes are concise, unique, well-written, and are as good as any other such joke.
None of those things apply to the "apologetics" category memes posted here, however.
Even for a "Catholic" nerd for myself, who has studied apologetics for hundreds of hours, I didn't find any of those jokes funny. They just weren't funny, not even for someone neck-deep into that specific subject.

I find them funny for their absurdity. It's sort of the shock-value of something completely silly and unrelated to Catholicism to spout something as important and serious as EENS.

    .
Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar.
One says, “I’ve lost an electron.”
The other says, “Are you sure?”
The first replies, “Yes, I’m positive…”

Don't believe anything those atoms say.  They make up everything!
