  • Actually, if a Biblical passage's meaning hasn't been defined by the Church, and holy tradition hasn't expounded on it, the Catholic reader should, by default, interpret the passage as literal before parabolic or allegorical, just to be on the safe side. God isn't the author of confusion, and He speaks directly, unless He knows a parable / allegory will resonate better with the faithful.
