  • This really does belong in the 'Teen Forum', but I enjoyed these. They'll probably get a sympathetic audience here and with all the posts about rock music they'll make a pleasant change. I have a little French (I'm not fluent, but I can call a cab, order a meal, confess in French if I need to, that sort of thing) and I enjoy this sort of thing. Holy Catholic France was the Elder Daughter of the Church and a great bastion of Christendom. Father Kelly S.J. points out that God raised up Jeanne d'Arc to save France from apostasy.

    Scouting:

I'm a little nervous about posting Action Francaise songs, because of the condemnation - does anyone know the circuмstances surrounding it? I seem to remember Bp. Tissier praising it, but I am sure it was condemned then the condemnation was revoked.

  • Thankyou, Patrick! I enjoyed them. Especially the first one with the birds chirping in the background.

More and more I am appreciating simplicity in music. The raw, gruff sound of men singing a boisterous tune is pleasing to the ears and heart.
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

  • This one has more birds chirping in the background for you, Jen.  I find the sentiments and history expressed in this song to be more profound than almost any other I've heard, though their profundity might go unappreciated due to their simplicity.  It's one of my favourite songs :

This one starts off with a more militant tone, which I also like :

  • Those are nice, PereJoseph. The birds were gulls this time. :)

The first song has an especially captivating minor melody. I like it the best. I'm sure I could appreciate it more if I had a better grasp on French. I got the basic understanding of what it was about by examining the lyrics, but not completely. I can't find an English translation of the words!

  • is in Old French but wonderful nonetheless.
"There's a mix of passion and shortsightedness in me, even when I'm positive that I'm doing my very best to see things for what they are, that warns me that I'll never know for sure. Undoubtedly I must follow the truth I can see, I have no choice and I must live on; but that is for me only, not to impose on others." - Fr. Leonardo Castellani
