Title: Dogs
Post by: Antony on July 31, 2012, 11:30:06 PM
Does anybody else believe that dogs are a great gift from God?  I have a boxer/lab mix and she is the sweetest thing.  I find dogs so amusing.

God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, and cattle, and every thing that creepeth on the earth after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
So of course dogs are good! I miss mine, who was sadly attacked by another ........DOG!

Nope, Its not a pointless thread.  I have two pooches that give so much love and companship I don't know what life would be like without them.  The boys (that's how I refer to them) are like my kids.

Well you have to admit, for the most part dogs don't give you any grief.

Here is something I read the other day I got a charge out of that really made my day.

Welfare for Dogs?

This morning I went to sign my dogs up for welfare. At first the lady said, “Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare.” So I explained to her that my dogs are mixed in color, unemployed, lazy, can’t speak English and have no clue who their Daddys are. They expect me to feed them, provide them with housing and medical care . So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify. My dogs get their first checks Friday.

Sometimes I do.  Never once has my dog back talked me or said anything to remotely make me mad.  I hope she doesnt start.

Allow me to be the voice of dissent here. I hate dogs.  :really-mad2:

They crap on my lawn and the neighbor's stupid little mutt, I call him The Rat since that is what he looks like, yips and yelps everytime I dare to walk out my side door.

The last house I lived at my neighbor allowed her mutt to bark all night disturbing me and keeping my kids up.

I would never inflict a dog on myself or anyone I care about. I'll take a cat any day of the week over a mutt.

I've got a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.  He's definitely a gift from God.  God uses him to console me and to chastise me.  This is him wearing a poncho I made out of his blanket.  His name is Dexter.

We adopted Teddy Bear, a pekingnese at 6 months, born blind.  He is now 10 years old.  If it were not for his nose and keen smell, he would have more problems being blind.  He does not know what sight is and is a happy dog.  He does not play fetch the ball. But when my mother-in-law was in the nursing home, we would take him and he had the joy of saying hello to many residents.  We were asked if he was a therapy dog.  Well, no, but the residents are teddy's therapy.  That is how he gets his lovings.  He likes going to Lowes and the employees know him and give him dog treats.  He won't eat them, but he guards them.  He travels in the car for 3 day trips fishing.  He likes the new smells.

My dog's name is Ruffers.  Yes I know, its the most rediculous name ever for a dog and there is a long story involved on how she got it.

When I got married a year and a half ago, I had to leave her with my parents because she couldn't go where I was going to live.  But they only live a about two miles away so I see her often.  What's funny about this is that everytime I go over there she always greets me with a stick in her mouth.  And mind you, these are the smallest little sticks you can imagine.  One time she even teased me with a pine needle as she held it in her mouth so carefully.  She would act like she was going to give it to me, then as I tried to grab it she would run away and this process was repeated for a while.  It was just hilarious how she had that tiny pine needle in her mouth, though.  And as she is part boxer and is constantly pawing me with her paws.  She loves attention, and I have to admit, I babied her as a puppy. So she has a few bad habits that could be fixed.

Just a couple of thoughts on dogs.

1.   I cannot understand why people feel the need to dress dogs. If you put a coat on a dog you are actually causing his fur to remain short, whereas if a dog is exposed to the cold his fur will grow as a cold-defence mechanism.
2.   Roland, I can thoroughly sympathise with you on yappy dogs. Probably the owners leave the poor thing at home alone and scared out of its wits, ‘cause it’s too small to defend itself or anything else. I suggest keeping a container of water near the fence and when he starts up throw a cup of water on him. It worked for us. Now all we have to do is open the door and the dog runs for cover and is quiet.
3.   You call the dog the Rat, because that is what it looks like. I know the type you mean, so small they are just an excuse for a dog.
4.   Dogs have come to take the place of children. It’s such a sick world. Can’t blame the dogs for that.

Just in case that first point was directed at me:

I would hardly call him "dressed" in that picture.  What I did was wrap a blanket around him and tie a knot in it.  He wore it long enough to get his picture taken and then tossed it off.

I say this because I, too, don't like to see dogs "dressed."  I would not call him dressed there.

Occ we might put a bandana on my dog or a sweater (he has one) if really, really cold out, but no, we are not into dressing dogs, to us, a real waste of $$

I completely understand about small, yappy dogs. I can't stand them.  I also can't stand how many people basically worship them.  I do really like dogs but I think some people take it too far by donating money to animal causes, excessively rescuing them when they should just be put down and just placing them on a pedestal in general.

No, I didn't mean to direct that comment at you, Mythrandylan. Though your very cute dog, made me think about all the dogs that I see on the street that are "dressed". It really irks me. As I said in point 4, it's related to the child-substitutes that dogs and cats have become. I goes completely against any common sense. As the Religion of Man grows, man becomes ever more stupid and animals are treated ever more "human".

An afterthought. Our kids used to have lots of fun dressing up our dogs and the dogs liked the attention and joined in the fun of the game. That's a different thing altogether than dressing animals like they don't have fur to protect them from the weather.
