  • My latest doll purchase, $30 including shipping, after using gift cards. I think she was made to be a Shirley Temple competitor, with an all-composition construction and the dimples. I'm planning to practice restoration on her, cleaning her up and re-stringing her. Til I get around to that, I'll enjoy her as is.

  • If you restore her you should post an update!

The most recent interesting thing we’ve bought are the supplies for vermicomposting. We bought it a couple months ago and it’s been making some excellent food for our garden plants. The worms have multiplied as well! It’s been a fun and interesting new project.

  • I just bought a transfer box for my house's electricity.  That way, when the SHTF, I can plug in my solar generator and still have power through the wiring that's already in the house.

Well, she doesn't need restringing after all. Her stringing is still fairly good, so it's not worth redoing. Now I just have to wait to order the cleaner.

Not a bad idea.  I have a propane / gas generator, and some solar ... but a transfer switch might be useful, although I think I have such limited generation capacity at this point that a transfer switch might be overkill.

  • The other day my husband came home with a salamander he caught at work. :fryingpan: So we bought an old aquarium to make a terrarium.

  • Do books count?

There is a website "DoctorYourself.com" but some of the links are in French, other languages or don't open for me.  So, I recently bought the book that covers most of the information on the website:

This brings back memories of catching tadpoles when I was a child.  We pit them in an aquarium but eventually they turned into frogs, got out and started jumping all over the house.  We also had a crayfish in the aquarium that got loose.  I don't think that I will ever forget when it crawled out from under the couch as my mother was sitting on it talking on the phone...  That was the end of our aquarium adventures...  😅🤣

That is an amazing idea!  I have great memories of going outside to the shed with my father as a child to watch him get the generator working when the power went out.

So, you can choose which things to use, but you're doing so via the house's own wiring, versus having to plug everything directly into the generator.  My well pump is basically wired directly into the electrical box and has NO plug that I can stick into the generator even if I wanted to do so, yet I need water.  By making use of the transfer box, I can still use my well pump, etc., and can also choose to NOT use anything that might overwhelm my limited power supply.

  • I haven’t bought anything but gas for the last two weeks. It’s wise to fill up your tank and storage containers before big holidays. The best days are usually Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. The price goes up on Friday-Sunday plus the days immediately before and after a big holiday. Check the crappiest areas in town and pay cash. Check the pump numbers because they’ll often gyp you, especially if you’re a white female in an other colored neighborhood. Mornings are best. Do not go after dark. Grit your teeth and fork out the money in a safer place. Get a small amount to tide you over.
