"Pious" Pick-Up Lines...

  • In a recent thread there was an interesting tangential discussion on how young men are to approach and captivate "fair maidens' hearts" by means of communication. Faith cometh by hearing, as St. Paul teaches (Rom. ch. x. 17), but apparently so does the love that can lead to nuptial grace.

A friend sent me a message, saying, "Hey maybe there should be a thread on pious pick-up lines for us to use." I responded with my characteristic enthusiasm, "Uh, okay... I guess."

    So, here's it goes:

Some time ago, someone came to me with the question of how to ask his betrothed for a modest kiss in such a manner as to impress her, to which I responded,

    Quote
Say to her, "Your lips are as sweet rubrics to which I am bound sub gravi to adhere!"

He didn't use it because he said she wouldn't have understood what that meant, and told me something like what Catholic Samurai wrote, "Dude, you are predestined to vow virginity, unless you find yourself a female liturgical nerd to wed."

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

  • A friend wrote to me today, "Hey you should be like the traditional Catholic version of Demetri Martin!" Responding to him, I wrote, "But I don't know how to play a guitar or draw."

Anyways, here is another "pick-up" line:

    Quote
Hey there, Miss: can you hear that? I think I can hear the Choir chanting my Requiem, 'cos I am mortally stricken by your elegance and beauty!
    .

If that's too cheesy, try this (especially suited for Altar servers):

    Quote
I remembered you during Mass at the Suscipiat, because I always stutter and forget things whenever I talk to you.

I would imagine: I had a similar experience with love letters...

    Oh well!

Here's something to say to a girl during an argument:

    Quote
What are you talking about!? Listening to you is like trying to understand the General Rubrics of the Breviary, the latter being the more pleasant and feasible endeavor.

I think the midst of an argument might be a bad place to see if the lady appreciates your sense of humor.  :smirk:

Thank's Hobble, but I think I'll stick with simple poetry.

If you can easily see Don Juan saying something like that (and I can), it's probably not a good idea. lol

It's funny, because despite the fact I come from a long line of rather successful womanizers, pick-up lines just are not my strong point.  :laugh1:

Does anyone know of a book along the lines of "How to Recite the Divine Office for Dummies"?
