  • Hi Everyone!

I do the transcription for Inthissign.  First, thank you for recording these talks and sermons.  We are working on transcripts for you now and I need to ask a favor of all of you who record.  I'm having a real problem with some of the audios.  I can't hear the priest because there is so much noise around the mic at times.

The recorders pick up every sound in the room.  The closer a noise is to the recorder the louder it is when I listen.  When the recorder is far from the priest, it's hard to hear him even when the audience is pretty quiet.  Some of the priests drop their voice at the end of a sentence and I can't hear what they say.

Also, I'm getting children's voices louder than the priest's and they are drowning out the priest.  Crying babies are especially painful to my ears.  I have to listen over and over to try to catch what the priest says and I get replays of the cries.  My ears are ringing.  There is no way to turn down the volume and still hear anything of what the priest is saying.

Can you please try to get the recorders closer to the priest?  And if you have a crying baby or a talkative child, could you please not sit right by the mic?  I know you want to hear what the priest says while your child is making noise and I understand but if it is possible, can you please sit perhaps on the other side of the room away from the mic so that I can hear better?  I'm having to put in a lot of (inaudible) because of children crying.  It also happens if someone has a bad cough.  It really hurts my ears and I can't hear what the priest is saying.  I hate putting in (inaudible).  Sometimes it is something he is trying to stress.  I use professional-grade noise-canceling headphones but I still can't hear.

    Thanks for your help!

  • It's really quite simple..

Just put the recorder up near the priest speaking, by setting it on a chair
nearby, or on a shelf, or on his desk.

Don't put it on his podium, because when he touches his podium,
that puts a loud noise on the recording.

Set the recorder near the person speaking, turn it on and leave it on.

When he's done speaking, go get the recorder and turn it off.

Nobody is interested in the noises of people coughing, sneezing, clearing
their throats, or babies crying, getting ready to cry or just babbling, people
moving in their seats, bumping the recorder accidentally, crinkling plastic,
eating apples, swallowing or breathing.  None of those noises do anything
but DAMAGE to the recording and sometimes they make it impossible to
hear the words of the priest speaking.

Everyone knows you are in the habit of plopping the recorder down on the
seat right next to you and it's too much to ask for you to change your habits.

But we are asking anyway:   Please change your habits.

We can't hear the priest speaking, so please change your habits so we can
    hear the priest speaking.
