He wants to see things and people in the best light possible.
Unfortunately, His Excellency forgets that Fr. Pagliarani has already showed his cards in chasing after Rome to resume doctrinal discussions, and even announcing that it is not necessary for Rome to be convinced.
The only way to translate such insanity is “we just want a deal.”
In this particular instance, His Excellency serves only to weaken the resolve of the Resistance by saying such things.
The continuity between Fellay and Pagliarani is remarkably consistent, and the paltry evidence adduced as grounds for hope of a Pagliarani reversal are so overwhelmed by measures (not just words!) to the contrary, that the former seems but a Pius wish.
Since Pagliarani has taken over, he has further advanced the slide and ralliement of the Society far beyond the place where Fellay had left it, with joint Pagliarani-Huonder communiques, doubtfully ordained Institute of Christ the King priests saying Mass in SSPX chapels for SSPX “faithful,” SSPX faithful being invited by their district superior to attend Mass at a buritual diocesan priest’s chapel, Fr. Kilcawley’s buzarre spirituality at the Angelus Conference, etc, etc.
I am a strong supporter of Bishop Williamson, but in these prudential matters, I do not think the weighing of the evidence lends much support to a Pagliarani reversal (nor do I understand why Bishop Williamson would want to try to convince us of one).
