A priest friend of mine (not one of our heroes from the Philippines) was speculating the other day on "why the delay?" I think what he came up with is brilliant. It is pure speculation, of course, but anticipating an enemy's strategy is an integral part of war. Therefore this does not fall into the speculation-just-for-raw-curiosity's-sake category. Nor is it intended to be alarmist. It is quite reality-based, and quite astute.
Why the delay?
Presupposition: It's a delay. The deal is nowhere near dead.
Supposition: Bishop Fellay could not deliver to Pope Benedict the two "good bishops," Tissier and de Galereta. Without those two on board, the SSPX is unpalatable to the papal tastebuds.
Bishop Fellay will now have some time to work on them, and to try to split them off from Bishop Williamson. It is a real, hot war between +F and +W, symbolically speaking, over the allegiance of the two Bishops. We think that getting the two in rome's pocket is more or less Bishop Fellay's current assignment.
Now I will add this: This is only apparently a personal joust between +F and +W. In reality it is a war between the Faith and modernism. We use the +F versus +W symbolism because it is apt for various reasons and because there is a real agenda behind it: Split Williamson off from the two.
Now, in general, +Fellay has tried to make his disagreement with the three something personal. He wrote:
"You cannot know how much your attitude over the last few months - quite different for each of you - has been hard for us. It has prevented the Superior General from sharing with you these great concerns, which he would gladly have brought you in to, had he not found himself faced with such a strong and passionate lack of understanding. How much he would have loved to be able to count on you, on your advice to undergo this so delicate moment in our history. It is a great trial, perhaps the greatest of all 18 years of his being superior. Our venerable founder gave to the Society bishops a task and precise duties. He made clear that the principle of unity in our Society is the Superior General. But for a certain time now, you have been trying - each one of you in his own way - to impose on him your point of view, even in the form of threats, and even in public. This dialectic between the truth and the faith on the one side and authority on the other is contrary to the spirit of the priesthood. He might at least have hoped that you were trying to understand the arguments driving him to act as he has acted these last few years in accordance with the will of divine Providence."
But it is not personal for the three. It is a matter of objective truth for the three.
Thus, if the supposition uses a form of shorthand by calling it "+F versus +W for the coveted prize of the allegiance of the two Bishops," it is nevertheless intended to signify these two realties:
1. Rome wants the two, Tissier and de Galereta, but not the one, Williamson; and so it looks to use Menzingen to divide the three in its savage quest to savage the SSPX.
2. +Fellay wants the two, presumably to "heal the division" inside the SSPX; and this is because he perhaps believes that the division is caused by a person (+W) and not by his own new ideological orientation.
Fr. Chazal predicted a hot summer. He also said the war is on. And just like in chess the pawns are used to checkmate the king and queen, the war this summer is for the two Bishops - the choicest pieces on the board. These are the prize of victory. These are literally the most important men in the entire world right now. They are preventing the ship of Tradition from capsizing in the icy waters. If they fall, the already dark world will darken exponentially.
Therefore I beg the two Bishops to remain firmly united with Bishop Williamson IN THE OBJECTIVE FAITH; and I also caution them to beware; for the devil now goes about like a ravening lion seeking to devour them. He will unleash the entirety of his fury upon them in this unholy thrust. He will use every ploy.
Let us pray to Our Mother Mary and dearest St. Joseph for these two prelates in particular.
Her analysis is idiotic at best. Bp Fellay could not care less at this point if the other bishops come with him or not. He made that clear when he said so flippantly "I can not rule out a split" and he makes it clear in the next interview with dici when he says I will take what Rome offers(if he can get away with it). He was in no way concerned about it in that interview. He thinks he's got the Pope in his pocket so to h*ll with everybody else and their pleas and their cries and their sufferings. He has divested himself of the truth, of Tradition, of the good Archbishop and clothed himself with his new pals in Rome and his best bud the Krahman.
If you want to know a man look and see who he surrounds himself with. In this instance also who he rejects, his own brothers in spiritual blood. Which is higher than a brother given of flesh.
He's standing on top of the jello-mound.
He won't stand up there for long and the fall will be fast and furious.
Does he really think God will let him carry on like this indefinitely?
My guess is no He won't!
Once again Bp. Fellay and the Pope stick their noses at God and say tough, and once again juuuuusssst when the two are about to wed good and evil in unholy matrimony God steps in. First the leaked letters, then the resistance and if that weren't enough to stop them the Lord sends His Laborers onto the field to drop the biggest bomb of all, the sermon of the saintly Father Pfeiffer and Chazal. If that weren't enough all hell is breaking loose in the Vatican so that the Pope can't even stop to think about the unholy wedding with the Society.
Things will calm down and the two obstinate, willful men will try again and I say it here and now, I would not want to be in their shoes when they do.
GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED!
