  • Someone in another thread I can't find now, brought up this foundational point: The question that needs to be asked to anyone that attends an SSPX chapel is; "Why do you come here?".

That is not just a question for today, with all of the turmoil going on, but a question for always, from the beginnings of the SSPX till the end of the SSPX.

Good question to ask. I wonder what the answers will be?

From my experience, the typical SSPXers of today are ignorant about the faith. However, this simple question is one that can be answered by anyone, and will tell you everything. It is foundational.

  • My answer: I want to save my soul and the souls of my children. This is the best way that I know I can properly serve God here on earth.

Or, you could ask the question like Fr. Rostand and ask, "If you don't trust us, why do you come to our sacraments?"

I replied, "We don't have much of a choice."

I came to Saint Michael's before the SSPX was at our Church, and I come for three reasons, as Archbishop Lefebvre aptly put it, "The Faith, the Faith, and the Faith." Father Bolduc kept that Faith at the forefront of everything. The sermons now, are all about "charity" and "obedience" and "meditation."

We need priests that are going to keep the Faith at the forefront of their sermons. That is what is under attack, and what is the most important thing in our lives, because it is our salvation that hinges on the Faith.
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

My Avatar is Fr. Hector Bolduc. He was a faithful parish priest in De Pere, WI,

  • I go to the SSPX for valid sacraments and the teaching of the true Catholic faith.  If/when they start teaching heresy and/or I come to doubt the validity of the sacraments then I will leave.

I don't expect the SSPX to be without "problems", they are men after all, not angels.

I completely agree - after being with the SSPX  my entire life, now I find myself in a kind of predicament that my parents found themselves in +40 years ago. Thankfully I had an example through my parents so I will stay with the SSPX that I have because I am certain that the Holy Sacrifice of Calvary is reenacted and the sacraments valid - for now.

I can say that for about the last 8 months or so, the sermons we've been hearing is about is all about charity - more specifically, "Love". Nothing about obedience and very little about meditation, mostly about "Love". Not the NO kind of "Luv", but still.

Bottom line, it is the Mass that matters and as long as that remains at my SSPX chapel, and seeing as how there is no other alternative close by, I will continue to participate at my SSPX.

"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

The question was meant for those at your chapel that don't know what is going on with the "accord" situation, and for the accordistas. I think you'll be surprised to find just how many want to join Rome so that they are no longer called schismatics and sedevacantes and such.

Brought out by all the un-Catholic behavior of the SSPX cult in Sanford, FL which Fr. Vernoy seems to be setting their example, this question certainly entered my mind.

  • Bowler, an answer to your question is and should be for ALL a very basic simple answer.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

St. James states: “Let all mortal flesh be silent, standing there [at the time of the Consecration] in fear and trembling; for the King of kings, the Lord of lords, Christ our God is about to be sacrificed and to be given as food to the faithful.

(All the problems arise when people start to change God's Truth to suit their personal needs......be it the faithful, the priests, the Bishops, or the Popes).

    God never changes, people do.

  • The Faith has to come first. You can't have the Mass without the Faith, whole and entire.  The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass keeps us strong, but without a militant spirit, it can easily be taken away just as it was 50+ years ago.  It is so easy to slide into a very comfortable position where sermons about charity and meditation are pleasing to hear.

Our beloved Catholic Church is in the state of siege.  The enemies "have taken over the citadel".   To say that as long as we have our Mass, everything is "all good", ignores the fact that what we also need now is to hear sermons that will help us through this war.  And we are at war!  We need good priests that aren't afraid to shout, "Viva Christo Rey".  Satan is working overtime because he knows his time is short.  What better way for him to win (if even temporarily) and neutralize traditional souls than by anesthetizing them with sermons about love, joy and peace.  This is like a tranquilizing gun aimed at members of the church militant.

Wake up.  Catholics in the 1950's were asleep.  All the exteriors were there.   Most of them didn't fight the changes.  They obeyed and went "along to get along".  Sad!  They lost their faith because they weren't militant.

  • I am not trying to minimize the Mass....NEVER.  I am trying to draw attention to the "50's mentality of many SSPX'ers.
