  • Not everyone uttering a heretical statement is a heretic. He may well be just erring.

    THIS ^^^

Even hollingsworth used the term "materially", but obviously doesn't know what that even means.

Lad, I searched this thread in vain for my alleged use of the word "materially."  Since you put the word between quotes, I assume that you lifted it from one of my posts on either this topic or some other such topic.  Could I ask you to reprint the text in which I used the word "materially?"  I'd like to think that such a written passage exists before I confront the charge that I obviously don't know what the word materially means.
Meanwhile, I continue to look upon you as a rather rigid and small minded pharisee.  And it raises the question in my mind that Matthew himself may be a rather small minded moderator for allowing such as you to contribute along with other forum members, a number of whom, I feel thankfully, have very good minds.  But Matthew seems to get rid of them over time, leaving only the dregs like you to post on endlessly.

  • bzzzzt.  Cf. the condemnation by Pius IX.  It is the believe that people can be saved in any religion whatsoever.  By your definition, even Batican II didn't teach religious indifferentism, because it taught that the fullness of truth was to be found only in the Catholic Church.
Which I never said but alright.

I suspect the term 'materially' means material heresy. This is when heresy is not the intention only what one thinks is correct in ignorance.

An example of this occurred when popes were given false reasons to ignore the 1616 decree defining heliocentrism formal heresy. Their belief in the heresy was not in defiance of the 1616 decree but on their belief heliocentrism was a fact of nature. Now that it is known there was no evidence to ignore the decree does not mean they committed heresy, at worst only material heresy that contains no punishment.

  • Cassini, what you’ve posted is extremely off the mark, and simply gives that rascal Ladislaus a little breathing space. No one, Cassini, was asking for the meaning of ‘material heresy.’ I was accused by this forum member, it appears. of using the word “materially’ in a previous post, and not knowing “even” what it means. I asked this cretin to supply proof that I had ever actually used that word. To date, he has not, because, I think, he can not.
Then forlorn notes, in bewilderment, in a subsequent post, that Lad has put words in his mouth, as well.
Matthew, you need to consider your banning policy. Lad is obviously not a very honest fellow. But maybe he’s a friend of yours, or maybe a relative, and you’re reluctant to ban him. I don’t know.

  • Maybe this has been mentioned, but I just noticed that this letter/report was dated August 22, the feast of the Immaculate Conception (Trad calendar) and the Queenship of Mary (new calendar).  How appropriate.
