Who Will the SSPX Consecrate?
« on: April 21, 2023, 06:12:39 AM »
My vote is someone from the "powerbrokers" category, like Schmidberger or du Chalard: These men have beeen running the SSPX behind the scenes (at least with regard to Roman relations) for decades.  Schmidberger was a longtime friend of BXVI (so much so that +Lefebvre had begun working to ensure he was not reelected in 1994).  And du Chalard has been the primary liaison between Rome and Menzingen for over three decades.  Expelled as superior by the Sisters of the Cenacle (i.e., SiSiNoNo), he is Rome's kind of liberal.  Both are GREC supporters, overt ralliests, and have been selling the deal for decades.  Rome will feel most comfortable with this kind of candidate.  Lorans (a GREC co-founder) would be my dark horse, and I think Celier's reputation is too flagrantly suspect to be viable.

If the candidate comes from outside this category, my money is on LeRoux (who is already being replaced at the seminary by Fr. Goldaddy, in preparation for a new role in the SSPX).

How about the option of "no one"?

But if they WERE to consecrate bishops, it would be the liberals and the +Fellay yes-men.

My guess would be Celier, Robinson, and Schmidberger ... which they can spin as being multi-national:  US/English, French, German.  All of these are bad news.  I might even through a Laisney into the mix, having been a "good and faithful servant" (of liberalism) over the years.

I'm not sure there will be 3 though.  Could be just one, to replace the expelled +Williamson and the ailing +Tissier.  If the pick one, it would be someone who's fluent in multiple languages.

That is the only course of action Rome could take to endanger their capture of the SSPX (and therefore the least likely possibility).

What if they just "adopted" Hounder, Burke and Schneider?

Well, just because you don't accept that it would be no one, it's still a legitimate option for your poll, as others might disagree.

I don't think anyone will be consecrated this year.
