And the reason for the thumb down is... What?
It was a question not a statement.

Beats me, soulguard. I think it's a great question and a most pertinent one, given the present state of affairs in the Church.

Soulgaurd,
I think the thumbs-down (not from me)  may have been because this question could easily be answered by Wiki or many other sources. Members often expect newbies who take subjects seriously to do their own research before asking FAQ's. Most don't feel like typing in-depth answers to questions just because someone else doesn't feel like doing their homework. Plus, they might just be a troll in sheep's clothing. No offense meant. Been there, done that. You asked.

Not sure why your first post would have been down-thumbed TCat except maybe somebody thought that you had not studied the 1988 SSPX concecrations that resulted in ex-communication.  I'm not sure that your question clearly betrays ignorance of those points, and, in any event, think down-thumbing you for that would be a lack of generosity.

But if it happened, I think 2 things would happen:  1. Any bishop involved bestowing or receiving would be excommunicated.  2. The traditional world including the mainstream SSPX (sorry for the oxymoron) would marvel and celebrate +F's restored parts of manhood though some would do so quietly pretending they never thought he'd lost them, it, or whatever.

Would the excommunications be valid?  I think not, for 1 of at least 2 reasons.  1. Necessity.  2.  Who's going to VALIDLY excommunicate them?

.

That would be pretty funny, if +F were to ask permission of the Holy See to consecrate another bishop.   Why would he waste the effort?

I mean, what would he say?  "See here how I expelled +W because he made the Jews feel like less than our Elder Brothers in the faith?  Now you can be sure I won't be going down that road again!  In fact, all my candidates have to pass a litmus test for being pro-Israel.  So how about it?"

And don't forget the Ace up his sleeve:  "In the worst case, if a newly 'ordained'.." ..(the Holy See prefers "episcopal ordination" to "consecration").. "..turns out to be slipping into anti-Semitism (God Forbid!), we can always reel him in like we did with the other two, +TdM and +AdG!"

"P.S. Happy Chanukkah!" ......................

People regularly downthumb prayer requests and quotes from the infallible statements of popes if posted by someone they don't like.  It was intended personally.  You do the downthumber no injustice if you take it personally.
