  • Hello. :) At the bottom of the page, it says that this website supports "The Resistance" by Bishop Richard Williamson. Who exactly is Bishop Williamson, and what is "The Resistance?"

God bless you for answering my question.

  • Bp Williamson was with the SSPX and expelled. The Resistance is referring to a group of loosely associated clergy who have left or been expelled from the SSPX.

  • Dear Ben,

    Firstly WELCOME! :rahrah:

Now go to the front page and click on New Posts. That will bring you to an Index of Topics in order of the last post, with the exception of the first several Topics which are left there permanently whether anyone has made a recent post or not. They are there for their importance.

There are three particular ones that may help you to understand:

    Collection of Resistance Writings
Letter of Three SSPX Bishops to Bishop Fellay - PDF
Group for Reflection Among Catholics (GREC).

There's a lot of reading there, and maybe they demand a previous knowlege in order to understand what they are all about.  It depends very much on how much you already know about tradition. I guess being 67, I experienced growing up with tradtition but you did not, so it might take a while to get the pieces sorted.

How much do you know of the Vatican Council and the work of Archbishop Lefebvre? This is all important knowledge to acquire.

And of course there's the grace of God and the Holy Spirit to guide you.

    God bless your efforts.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

I would be very cautious to limiting ones knowledge of the resistance to Fr. Pfeiffer and Fr. Chazal, considering many times what they say as far as opinions is not supported by Bishop Williamson and has actually been known to turn people away from the resistance.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • Strangely enough, I also want to know exactly what it is as well.

Some priests dont think the SSPX should make a deal with rome and so they either left the SSPX or were kicked out because of their point of view.
    That is it, right?

Now they have an unofficial loose group of priests.
Their websites are very obscure as well. Hard to get info off them.

  • Hi bben,

I noticed in your intro thread that you are a catechumen?

Might I suggest worrying yourselves with the basics of the faith, and understanding the terrible crisis of our time that has been wreaked by the Second Vatican Council and the New Mass?

Everything every traditional group does today is a response to this crisis.  It will be difficult to understand motives and actions and reactions with respect to the truth of the Catholic faith without first having a good working knowledge of the state of our times as traditional Catholics.

    God keep you.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • I think a good place for you to start is with Dom Prosper Geranger's Liturgical Year. The collection is available online with pdf at the following URL:

    http://www.theliturgicalyear.org/theliturgicalyearpdfs.html

I would also highly recommend some good biographies on St. Benedict and on St. Bruno, probably the two most important saints in western monasticism.

Encouraging that you can pick up on nuances and distinctions like these.  Learn the history of the Council, the New Mass and the heresiarchs who designed the modernist take-over of the Church.  Once you understand the doctrinal issues at work here, you will be able to see the motivations of each group.

Yes, listen to Mith.  I was a convert to the VII church like you and looking back I feel cheated. I didn't get the Catholic Faith.  I got, at best, a watered down version of it.
