  • Dear Nobody,

Forums just go through cycles, and sometimes people are really mean behind the keyboard.  You pleas for charity have not gone un-noticed.  I pray that you have a very holy Easter season, and do not leave the forums.  Thousands of people read the forums here without posting.  I have read a few of your posts and you seem like a very kind and sensitive person.  Don't let the meanies get you down.

Nobody, your reasons for joining Cathinfo are the reason most of us are here as well.  But do keep in mind this is the internet not a coffee shop after mass.  Sadly the internet seems to bring about the worst in many people, they say things here they would never say in normal conversation.  Does it make it right? No of course not, but despite that there is good Catholic interaction to be had here and other places, friends can be made and interesting things learned.  But you do need a bit of thick skin to weather some of topics/comments.  If you find some particular posters consistently really offensive you can always put them ignore and not see their comments at all.  Also, if there are particular topics/subforums that really get to you, you can always use a bit of self discipline and not read/post on those topics.  That can help a lot as well.  Ultimately you will have to make up your mind whether the balance of participating here is positive or negative, if it is negative, perhaps you would do better to bow out.

Normally it is not required to start a thread explaining why you do not like this forum and are leaving.  I will refrain from posting the dramallama pic, because it sounds to me like you are a bit out of sorts, but otherwise well intentioned.  Before you burn any bridges, just stop and take a deep breath and think about some of things I mention here.  If you have made up your mind to leave, than good luck and God speed, perhaps we will meet on the other side!

    God bless,

  • You fail to understand the nature of a Catholic forum. But you are not alone.

There are only TWO POSSIBILITIES for a forum:

    1. An elite club of "friends" and those who think alike. The owner/moderator rules with a heavy hand, and casts out all those unlike himself.

    2. A group of Catholics reminiscent of the Catholic Church itself -- a net enclosing both good and bad fishes. Freedom is given to those with opposing opinions, which of course creates some lively discussions, which could be considered "strife" or "friction".

The choice is always before me, but for me there isn't a choice. #2 is the only way to go.

It's not my place to enforce morality, charity, or anything else. Who died and left me YOUR PARENT? Only parents of young children try to physically enforce morality. Are the members of CathInfo my children now? On the contrary, everyone will be responsible for every idle word, SPOKEN, TRANSMITTED BY PHONE, OR TYPED. That is true everywhere.

Obviously I'll try to remove the worst offenders -- but I have to maintain a balance. If I cast out every member that someone didn't like, CI would be a ghost town within a month -- or at least it would resemble Option #1.

    No thanks.

You were right the first time -- CI is a good place to meet and discuss with like-minded Catholics. For many isolated Catholics, it's the ONLY place. If you changed your mind on this heading, you're just wrong. It's got to be your emotions talking, because countless members have made countless friends on CI over the years.

Can't handle the bad with the good? Go hide in a bunker and never emerge into the real world. You need to learn to deal with bad/difficult people, in real life OR online. It's a critical life skill that everyone needs to have.

But sometimes you DO need to ignore one or two people that push your buttons. You also have to let an annoying person (who you consider to be wrong or heretical) to have the last word in a thread. That's difficult for some people to do.

If someone's behavior is seriously bad -- above "noise level" (more than average), you can always PM me. I do read all my PMs, though I can't respond in-depth to each one. If enough people complain about a person, I do look into it. I've banned many troublemakers in the past, and I'm sure I haven't banned my last one yet.

  • Nobody, I see that you have far many more people who agree with you than disagree.  If you were looking to be puffed up, feeling good about yourself, if you were looking to walk taller, well these are the wrong reasons for telling others what you believe to be true.  A forum like this is a sifter of truth of sorts, but also an opportunity for Traditional Catholics who love the Church more than anything else in their lives to express what they think in a Church gone mad.  We are all trying to make sense of it all and in doing so, some folks may step on toes that you you don't like.  So what?

The fact is that each of us brings something different to the forum.  Some like me have been Catholics less than a decade, others have been Catholics their entire lives - 50, 60 or more years.  Everyone of us has seen the Church pushed to near destruction by satan who want you and your family too!  There is a lot to fight for and this forum has a place in that battle.

Yes, we all can and will say and think something sinful as the battle rages, but such is the nature of a battle.  We fall, but need to get back up, confess our sin and continue.  Some folks have grown cynical, some are more trusting and hopeful, but I can say that ALL folks who earnestly post on this forum do so because they love the Church.  Where will you find such people elsewhere?

Speak with 10 people this Sunday in the parking lot after Mass and I guarantee, you will disagree with at least half about something or other.  Discuss with them the status of the Traditional Catholic Church and you may disagree with 80% or more.  Many are asleep or just don't want to know the real truth of whats going on.  Apathy is a disease but doesn't exist on this forum.

Take a break if you will, but know that forums like this one, especially this one, promote the faith and seeks to fight the enemy of that faith who hates you more than anything you can imagine.

  • What we resist is Modernism.  The way we approach the fight against the modernist heresy and all its evils greatly differs from one member to the next. It's not so much the content itself but the method of deliverance of that content which makes it seem so harsh at times, but as a Catholic, you do have to develop a thick skin both in real and online life.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • Once I joked about "nobody cares" or something like that. I apologize if you thought I had ill will. It was only an attempt at humor.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • I am resisting the corruption of my heart and the loss of my soul. I've come to accept that there are members of the church hierarchy that are leading large numbers of us to Hell.
    "But 'tis strange:
And oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
The instruments of darkness tell us truths,
Win us with honest trifles, to betray's
In deepest consequence.." Banquo, from Shakespeare's Macbeth

  • .

drama queen  n.  Internet forum member who can somehow manage to generate in like, a day, two or more pages of sympathetic kiss-up posts from other members when stating in the OP that she/he has no intention of answering any of them (implying that perhaps their posts won't be read, either).  AND loving it.

(To be fair, Matthew's post was not a "sympathetic kiss-up" post.)
