  • We recently ordered white vestments from a company in India, and when they arrived, we saw they had a definite silver sheen to them.

    Anyone able to provide authoritative evidence to show these vestments can be worn on days calling for white vestments?

  • This is what happens when you take a decent task for a traditional Catholic American tailor, and give that task to someone overseas.

    Good job!  :shocked:

    How true!
    I make vestments.  I have  had a business since 2004.  I have seen the vestments from India.  They are not very good.   My vestments are not cheap, but not as expensive as sets from major companies such as Almay.
    If the vestment shows mostly as  white, it can be worn on the days that white is required.  If you consult a priest, he can tell you if the set can be used.
    Frankly, Id send it back.
      For any of you who would like to see my vestments, please pm me.
    Here are a couple of sets here

  • white is the generic colour but there are acceptable shades of white; most notably gold.
    when the required colour is not available gold is perfectly acceptable.
    I am not sure about silver though. Silver is normally confined to the trimming. Black vestments with silver trimmings are quite beautiful.

  • Those are beautiful.  Would you be able and willing to make eastern rite vestments?

    Silver would not be a problem in the Byzantine rite, but its color scheme is much more flexible that the Western one.  I don't know if such vestments would be okay in the Latin rite or not.

  • Silver vestments are an appropriate color when gold can be used.

    The vestments posted here are great! I know there are many mass produced vestments, some of more quality than others. In Poland in particular, you see more mass produced vestments and I needed to  :alcohol: when I saw this one;

    They have other ones that are less offensive. I love this cope;

    What color vestments are worn at Mass and when are they worn?
    Answer:
    For the Roman rite of Catholic Church the required colors are white, red, violet (or purple), and green.

        White vestments are worn during the Christmas and Easter seasons and at celebrations of the Lord (except of His passion), Mary, angels, saints who are not martyrs, All Saints day, and a few other specified feasts.
        Red vestments are worn on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and other celebrations of the Lord's passion, Pentecost, the feasts of martyred saints, the evangelists and apostles.
        Violet vestments are worn in Advent and Lent and for funerals (see exceptions below).
        Green is used for everything else.

    The following exceptions are allowed:

        White or black may be worn for funerals.
        There is a tradition in some places that may still be observed to wear rose (pink) vestments on "Rejoice Sunday", the 3rd Sunday of Advent, and "Be Joyful Sunday", the 4th Sunday of Lent.
        On the more solemn days, the most festive vestments available may be used regardless of color. In the United States only, this includes gold and silver vestments actually made from cloth of gold or cloth of silver.

    For Ritual Masses (for example weddings, ordinations, religious professions and anniversaries of these occasions) the color for the time of year, or white, or any festive color may be used. For Penitential Masses violet is used.

    Other rites within the Catholic church and other Christian denominations have their own rules, although many Anglican and Lutheran Churches use the same colors as Roman Catholic Churches.

    Hi Ora,
    It usually takes 45 hours to make the Roman and Spanish sets, and 35 hours to make the gothic sets

    Hi Sig,
    I dont know about solid silver vestments.  I think they can be used.  I do not make  Eastern rite vestments, but I know a lady who does.  She has a website, and does custom work also.
