Title: Vestments
Post by: Marlelar on August 28, 2014, 10:25:19 PM
Have the SSPX vestments changed?  I now see vestments with blue on white with their "Two Hearts" symbol embroidered on them.  I don't remember ever seeing the hearts symbol on vestments prior to this year.  Is this new or was I just unobservant in the past?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that doesn't sound good to me.

I realize their "logo" is pious, but it's still their logo. So all during Mass, instead of seeing something "generic" that evokes Christ (whom the priest represents) like IHS, a cross, or a lamb being sacrificed, you get a constant reminder that this Mass is brought to you by the SSPX (tm).

It could be part of their re-branding campaign -- everything is now consistent and showing a similar "look & feel": websites, publications, publishing house, and now...their Masses.

But perhaps some pious old lady made the vestments with no bad intention? Even if this is the case, it was very poor judgment and very poor timing. The re-branding campaign is indeed a reality.

Vestments aren't "company issued". They're either owned by the chapel or by the priest. Any parishioner could have decided to make or buy a set and give to the chapel or priest, so you'd have to know where they came from before worrying about anything else.

I was just wondering if any other chapel had these, if they were "company issued" or not.  Hopefully it is just local and they are not going to a uniform look.  I'll start paying more attention to the vestments to see what other ones are used.

Anyone here from St. Mary's or Post Falls?  Have you seen them at your chapel?

Question?  What happens to the "Blessed" vestments that are in the closet?, or where do they put the used ones?

Do vestments belong to the priest or to the chapel?

If the priest dies, they stay with the church, I would think.  Father LeBlanc, at Our Lady of the Sun, (RIP) stored the most magnificent vestments that I had ever laid eyes on.  They should be still there, for priests had no place of safety for them and that includes books are stored there as well.
