Typhoon Tino Brings Heavy Rains to Cebu – A Call to Prayer and Trust in Divine Providence

November 4, 2025 – Early Morning

At around 3:00 AM on November 4, 2025, the faithful here in Cebu began to feel the full force of Typhoon “Tino.” The winds roared through the night, accompanied by unceasing and torrential rain. Although its winds were not as fierce as those of Typhoon Odette which devastated our Bamboo Seminary of the Heart of Jesus and Mary (MCSPX) back in 2021, this storm brought a deluge of heavy rainfall, causing severe flooding throughout many parts of the island.

The lower-lying areas and riverside communities were the most afflicted—particularly those with poor drainage systems or shallow canals, where the water could no longer flow freely. The Province of Cebu was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4, and many of our brethren experienced hardship and displacement due to the rising waters.

By God’s mercy, reports from our faithful in the main city indicate that conditions there remain manageable—though some areas were slightly flooded, they were spared the worst of the storm. Unfortunately, we have no communication yet with our seminary, as only two of our brothers remained there during the typhoon, and they presently have no access to telephones or other means of contact. We continue to pray for their safety and for the protection of the seminary grounds.

As for our priests of the MCSPX, they were providentially away on mission:

* Fr. François Chazal is currently in Korea and scheduled for a brief rest in Europe,

* Fr June Ligan is in Malaysia, and

* Fr. Elias is in Negros or Iloilo, continuing his missionary duties.

Our seminarians, having just begun their vacation, had already returned to their homes—thus, by divine providence, they too were spared from the storm’s direct impact.

In our other Mass Centers, reports vary:

* In Lapu-Lapu City, the faithful are safe and relatively unharmed.

* In Liloan, however, our chapel and surrounding homes were severely flooded, with waters reportedly reaching up to ten feet high, submerging even the chapel itself. Many of our faithful there have sought refuge with their relatives while awaiting the waters to recede.

* In Danao City, we have yet to receive word if any of our traditional faithful have suffered serious losses.

* In Compostela, portions of the area are reported flooded; we pray earnestly that our Mass Center there has been spared.

At present, light rains continue to fall, and we hope that no further flooding will occur.

We humbly ask all our brethren and friends in Tradition to pray for the people of Cebu, especially for our Traditional Catholic community, that they may be strengthened in faith and patience amidst this trial.

Please also offer prayers:

* For those affected by this calamity,

* For the conversion of sinners,

* For the return of all Catholics—especially those misled by the errors of Vatican II and the modern synodal movement—to the full truth of Tradition, and

* For the Pope, that he may return to the perennial doctrines and discipline of the One, True, and Apostolic Faith.

May Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Joseph, and St. Michael the Archangel protect all those who suffer and intercede for the restoration of Holy Mother Church.

#Update on the Situation of Our Mass Centers and Seminary After #TyphoonTino
Cebu, November 5, 2025

Dear Faithful in Christ,

We wish to share the latest updates regarding our Traditional Catholic Mass Centers and the Seminary of the Heart of Jesus and Mary (MCSPX) in the aftermath of Typhoon “Tino”, which struck Cebu in the early hours of November 4, 2025.

Although the storm has passed, its effects continue to be felt. We thank Divine Providence that no lives were lost among our faithful, yet much property and sacred space have suffered greatly. Below are the most recent updates gathered from our local contacts:

1. Liloan Mass Center and the House of Kuya Rene

(Report from the sisters of Kuya Rene)

The situation in Liloan remains grave. Earlier today, they reported that the floodwaters rose up to the roof of both Kuya Rene’s house and our Mass Center there. The flooding was caused when the river fence collapsed—a barrier that, according to locals, had been part of a government-funded project that was poorly built despite its large budget. When the fence gave way, the strong river current rushed directly toward the homes near the Mass Center.

At around 6:00 AM, the flood current became violently strong, making it impossible for anyone to save belongings or secure the chapel. This is the worst flooding they have experienced since 1994. Despite the destruction, everyone is safe—thanks be to God.

Most of the glass windows and doors of the Mass Center and house were broken, and the main entrance door could no longer be opened due to the debris and pressure of the water. The faithful there described how, at the height of the flood, they had to climb onto the roof to save themselves.

We thank Our Lord and His Blessed Mother that no one was harmed, but they have lost much. Let us pray for their strength and for the restoration of their homes and chapel.

2. Seminary Update – Bamboo Seminary of the Heart of Jesus and Mary (MCSPX)

(Report from Ma’am Agnes, November 5)

Access to the seminary area remains extremely difficult. As of today, no vehicles or even motorcycles can pass through the road leading to Dam-an, Pamutan, due to a landslide that continues to block the path. Local residents from Sitio Bocaue, Cabatbatan, and Kabadiagan are working together, hand in hand, to clear the debris and pass small supplies by foot.

According to Ma’am Agnes, who reached the area nearby, the seminary itself is safe and still standing strong, but they face a shortage of food—only ginger and garlic remain as of this report. The main door of the seminary was damaged and broken, and the chandelier inside was destroyed, but otherwise, there is no major structural damage.

We thank Almighty God for His protection over our seminary and for preserving our two brothers who remained there. Please continue to pray for their safety, that the roads may soon be cleared and that supplies can be delivered quickly.

At this time, we have not yet received any updates from our faithful in Compostela, Danao City, Camotes, and some parts of other islands in the Philippines that were also struck by the strong typhoon. We entrust them all to the care of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, praying that they are safe and protected from harm.

3. Continuing Needs and Prayer Intentions

At this time, our priorities are:

* To restore communication with the brothers at the seminary.

* To provide food and essentials to the seminary community.

* To assist our faithful in Liloan whose chapel and homes were submerged.

We humbly ask all our faithful and friends of the MCSPX to unite in prayer and penance for:

* The safety and perseverance of our Traditional Catholic families in Cebu.

* The swift recovery of our Mass Centers and Seminary.

* The conversion of sinners and those lost to the errors of the modernist Church.

* The restoration of Holy Tradition and the return of the Pope and clergy to the unchanging Catholic Faith of our forefathers.

May Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Joseph, and St. Michael the Archangel watch over and protect all those affected by this storm, and may our suffering be united with the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the glory of God and the triumph of His Church.

Update and Cleanup Activity for Our Faithful Affected by Typhoon “Tino”
Liloan Cebu, November 8, 2025

Dear Faithful in Christ,

A little update regarding our faithful who were affected by Typhoon “Tino” and its heavy floods in various parts of Cebu—especially those living near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas where rainwater from the mountain regions accuмulated and caused severe flooding.

Compostela Mass Center

The road leading to our Mass Center in Compostela, Cebu remains impassable due to flooding and debris. Because of this, it is likely that there will be no Mass there tomorrow, Saturday, November 8, 2025. We ask all our faithful in Compostela to remain safe and to offer prayers at home until the roads are cleared and access is restored.

Danao City Mass Center

In Danao City, several of our faithful experienced flooding, and mud entered their homes. Thankfully, our Mass Center, which is located in a higher area, was spared from major damage. However, electricity remains unavailable in many parts of the city.
The Sunday Mass will continue, though the schedule might be adjusted depending on the local situation. We thank our faithful there for their perseverance and faith during this difficult time.

Liloan Mass Center – Cleanup Activity

In Liloan, Cebu, the San Vicente Ferrer Chapel and the nearby house of Kuya Rene and his family, our devoted Traditional Catholic faithful, were severely flooded, with water rising up to ten feet high during the height of the typhoon.

Tomorrow, Saturday, November 8, 2025, our group of faithful will gather early in the morning for a whole-day cleanup activity at the Mass Center and surrounding area. The goal is to remove the mud and debris, recover sacred images, save the chapel equipment, and clean the space so that it may once again be used for the Holy Mass.

Although only Kuya Rene and his family were directly affected in that area, the faithful from other centers have shown their brotherly love by volunteering to help in the cleanup, a true act of Catholic charity and unity in Tradition. We thank all who are offering their time, labor, and prayers for this restoration effort.

Let us entrust this day of labor to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that all our work may be sanctified.
May St. Joseph the Worker and St. Vincent Ferrer intercede for us as we rebuild our chapel and strengthen our community in faith and tradition.
