Does anyone know if Brazil NovusOrdo people are feeling smug or proud of the new pope being from nearby Argentina? Or do Brazilians feel that what comes from Argentina has nothing to do with Brazil?
I'm asking because I've noticed that outside of Mexico, Catholics in other central American countries do not think of Our Lady of Guadalupe as representative of them, and they say "She is Mexico." (I'm not sure if they mean that she is Mexican or if they mean that she is indistinguishable from the country itself.)
I know Brazil speaks Portuguese and Argentina speaks Spanish, so there might be a language barrier, but that wouldn't explain what I'm asking about, since like I said, Guatemalans who speak Spanish have no regard for a Mexican Marian devotion when Mexicans speak Spanish too.
If these Assembly of God 'missioners' were to work at Argentina, Pope Francis might say that "it's all good" or some dumb thing like that. So are the Brazilian Catholics okay with that outlook of Francis, or do they say, "He's Argentinian so he's a foreigner?"
