Bishop Williamson is suggesting that the Vicar of Christ can also be the head of a false religion.  What *is* he thinking?

Well, he's not thinking like a sedevacantist, so for that he'll receive no end of criticism here.

The Dominicans of Avrille have written about the same topic here, but in a different way, though I think that few here will be interested in reading it:

"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

Actually, he isn't thinking if he can even suggest that the Vicar of Christ is also the head of a false religion...unless he really doesn't believe that the Novus Ordo religion is false.

Saying "the pope is the head of a false religion" is PRECISELY equivalent to saying he is a "manifest heretic". You only have to look at the books since 1870 to see what it means when a pope becomes a manifest heretic. Intriguing, y'all?

Did you read what he wrote in its entirety, and try to understand it? Did you read the Avrille article? Or are you just reacting without really trying to understand?

  • Bishop Williamson wrote paragraphs one, five and six.
A recent convert to tradition wrote paragraphs two, three and four which it appears many are attributing the His Excellency.
I think paragraph 5 & 6 explain it well if read and understood.

In paragraph 5 there is a very important word "But"
"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered: and them that hate Him flee from before His Holy Face"  Psalm 67:2[/b]
