  • Yes, it does look like the former altar was quite nice and appropriately placed...

Thanks for quickly posting that photo!

Yes there is, but a small one on the official Écône seminary website http://www.seminaire-econe.ch/frcom/doc/visite/ph_2e.htm

And I wonder why the reference to Assisi ... maybe I too have a twisted mind lol  :dancing:

If this is a picture of the old altar, then it was not against the wall before either.

  • I think the real question is why did they put a new fixture right there, when they could have put it up against the wall where it's supposed to be, or at least made a traditional high altar?
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

It is a very austere sanctuary.  A lot of the monasteries in this country stripped their chapels to the bone:

I was wondering the same thing.  And, yes, the altar is definitely set up to be used with the option of the priest facing the people, and the tabernacle off in a corner somewhere.  "By the fruits you shall know them."
But one thing is necessary. Mary hath chosen the best part, which shall not be taken away from her.

  • What tickles me is even "all dress up", nothing is permanent on this altar except the altar-table itself  :confused1:

    Agreed.

But at least it was not accessible both ways (ie., The candlesticks are sitting on a ledge at the rear of the altar, and that ledge would prohibit saying Mass versus populum).

I did not see such a ledge on the new altar.

  • Anything like this happening or planned for Winona?  Or how about the VA seminary's altar?  I wonder.

  • I suppose if an earthquake levels Assisi to the ground when the conciliarists plan Assisi IV, they can always move their syncretist gathering to Econe and no one will notice the difference.

Thanks for pointing that out.  There are some more photos of the old altar that make that clear.  I tried to put them here in the thread, but they don't work for some reason, so I'll just post links:
