The SSPX has used an unauthorized missal for decades which is a hybrid of the 1962 and pre-55 that kept some of the Feasts and changes abrogated in 1962. Most of the faithful who grew up with this hybrid missal have no idea. For example, in this week alone, there are 3 Feasts that were abrogated in '62, The Finding of the Cross, St. John Before the Latin Gate and St. Michael the Archangel.
A year or so before Summorum Pontificuм, Fr. Peter Scott did a fundraising to publish the actual 1962 missal because the Angelus Press expected to sell the missal to the indult people and published a lot of copies. The Vatican outsmarted the Angelus Press and published a statement saying that "the only authorized 1962 missal was the one published by Beronius Press (and another publisher in England)" and the Angelus press was left with lots of boxes of unsold missals because SSPXers had no use for that missal. The Angelus press had pictures of their shelves loaded with those missals advertising them cheap with little or no success.
If ABL had lived to see BXVI declare the N.O and the 1962 missal two expressions of the same rite with the N.O. being the "Ordinary Form" and the 1962 the "Extraordinary Form" continue to use the 1962 missal or gone back to the pre-55? Who can say for certain?
Would he have accepted BXVI's "only authorized version of the 1962 Missal"?
Summorum Pontificuм was the first indult (permission to do what is otherwise illigal) that stated that in order to have the privilage to use that missal, indultists had to bend the knee to the N.O.
It is important to read S.P and the two other docuмents regulating that missal. Specially the Letter accompaning the docuмent S.P (also 7/7/2007) writen by BXVI to all the bishops of the world regarding S.P.
The 1962 missal has already been abrogated and exists only by special extention. The SSPX version of that missal has no standing. The Resistance need to inform themselves on this missal and follow tradition. That would be a better way to honor ABL.
