If the diocese takes over a cerain SSPX chapel, the Society will retain the chapel itself as is because it cannot hold more than 250 or so at a time. It will leave the current parking lot alone as it is already insufficient, forcing people to park in the adjacent field, either dried out and dusty, muddy and rutted, or usable only by 4-wheel drive vehicles in the snow. During a winter with heavy snowfall, the field is unusable. One can park along the highway which is extremely dangerous for getting in and out of vehicles. These "concessions" will keep the chapel at its current size , approximately the same as at the time of its founding. There are many who WANT no growth, lest others take the reigns of control. If a diocesan take-over accomplishes this, so be it. The fledgling school will remain that--very small, or it will be forced by financial straits to close. The diocese will not finance the expansion of the chapel, parking lot or the building of a proper school building. More than likely, it will take possession of the properties acquired several years ago to pay off debts from the scandals.
It will do all in its power to see the chapel gentrify. It is already extremely difficult for young families to establish themselves in the area. At present, there are more funerals than weddings, and baptisms equal funerals. Once the chapel is sufficiently thinned out, the diocese will say, "We're sorry, but there is no longer enough demand for the SSPX. Those who still want Mass in Latin can always come to our Extraordinary Rite Masses at Sts. X, Y, and Z.". The final blow will be the demolition of the chapel and rectory for use as overflow parking and sports fields for the modernist n.o. monstrousity across the street. This is what I see happening if a "deal" is made with Rome.
The only way around this under a "deal" is for the SSPX to compromise doctrinally and in practice. The chapel will be left alone if she begins incorporating some of the novelties of Vat. II --updated hymns, dialogue-mass, Latin mass with some prayers in English, loosening of. moral standards, less emphasis on Mary, the 1983 Catechism...But then why should people make sacrifices to attend the SSPX if there is no essential difference with that offered by the Extraordinary Rite? The diocese may as well make a parking lot and athletic field, or sell off the. property for commercial use. I can walk to a 'motu' mass. But I would not, because it is the Faith to which I am attached, not just a well-performed Tridentine Mass. I can down-load one of these on YouTube.
IMO, for what it's worth, the SSPX leadership needs to cease flirting with unconverted Rome, rescind the disastrous Doctrinal Preamble, make ammends to unjustly expelled priests, including Bishop Williamson, and reinstate parishioners who, in a few places, have been denied the Sacraments based not upon actual sins, but upon family, social, or business relationships with the "wrong" people.. Laity who have likewise scandalized one another or detracted, and slandered priests and Superiors need to clean house in the Tribunal of Confession and make reparation where; necessary.
,
But if the "deal" goes through and the diocese take charge, it will be a case of God's MERCIFUL judgment, just as when the people clambored for a king so as to be like all the other nations--so God gave them Saul. Eventually, He gave them David, but not before disaster on the battlefield.
Mary, Refuge of Sinners, pray for us!
