  • An excellent talk. Worth listening to in its entirety. I hope that the Protestants in the audience were paying attention, since it had an evangelizing quality to it, as well as speaking to very important issues for today. I didn't know that Bishop Williamson is fluent in speaking German.
"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

  • A familiar view of history. Tolerance is Rome's ѕυιcιdє pill and for that matter is also the West's. Looking round the rest of the world, we note great resistance to it. But then we would call it backward and in need of progressive coercion!

The bishop bluntly ascribes our awful situation to a falling away from God and no other solution will work. Today of course God is rarely mentioned and a culture with God at its heart is fading and is being broken up into many paltry pieces. I often wonder for those who are not Christian or religious whether there would be some merit in appealing to nature or the supernatural as a way of emphasising forces at work which are greater that what man can produce on his own. For them belief in God is a big stepping stone but recognising something greater beyond our earthly sphere would be like returning to the Medieval frame of mind and ultimately put mankind back on track towards a belief in God. It is certainly going to be much harder for future generations to discover this path with churches now in disarray and religion looked upon as a weird activity.
