Status of Silver City Benedictine, Father Gabriel?
« on: January 02, 2018, 11:39:25 AM »

Does anyone know of the status and location of Father Gabriel?

He had been on leave from the Silver City Benedictine monastery, residing at the SSPX's St. Athanasius rectory.

      Father Gabriel

Recently, he unexpectedly departed and the word on the street is that he's been laicized.

There's an interest within the Vietnamese community if he will become Resistance or not ?

With all due respect to this Vietnamese community, should that really be their first concern -- whether he will be a Resistance priest or not? Or do they believe they can take care of him?

I don't know it seems a bit odd to try and "snatch up" a priest who for whatever reason allegedly left the priesthood. Pray for this man. I remember meeting him several times many years ago.

Benedictine Father Gabriel, while supervised by the SSPX, is a unique case.

The neo-SSPX ship loses on average, about one priest every month, so it is futile to "spin control" each of them.

From these ex-SSPX ranks, perhaps 50% become some form of the massing Resistance.

While the Benedictines lose very few priests and have no tolerance for the Resistance.

The post is simply asking if Father has left the priesthood or if he will continue a priestly apostolate ?

Fair enough. What would cause a monk/priest to leave a monastery and leave the priesthood? I do hope he will still continue to exercise his priestly office in some capacity.

Indeed, so many priests do leave never to be heard of again.

He entered S.T.A.S along with another Benedictine brother studying for the priesthood: Fr. Raphael Arizaga, who is currently under a pall of controversy, criticism, and suspicion, and who has thrown his lot in with Fr. Pfeiffer.
