Of course the way it's going to go is that the SSPX will go the route of the FSSP

They have gone the route of the FSSP.

Dissociation from objective reality based upon the working of the imagination is the likely diagnosis here.

Is this a board where anyone can spin their own fairy tale and say whatever they want about anyone they so choose without any restraining law of morality, justice, charity or even basic common sense?

I don't often agree with you, Caminus, but you are correct here.  The SSPX has not gone the route of the FSSP, at least not yet.  I really don't think they are on the verge of doing so either, but then, I don't have intimate contact with the SSPX anymore so I'm not up on what they are doing from day to day.

  • I haven't gotten the impression that the SSPX has gone FSSP either.
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

On St Anthony's Day 2012 Bp Fellay went to Rome expecting Cardinal Levada to give him details of the canonical structure created for the SSPX.  This did not happen due to Ratzinger's objections. When Pope Ratzinger resigned, Bp Fellay sent him a message assuring him that he would see to the completion of the SSPX's reconciliation with Rome. At least this is how I remember things.

  • The mainstream church of the future will have all kinds of people in it doing their own thing without much regard to any unifying purpose. If the Society finally purchases its franchise in the patheon, it will be because it fears being locked out of history and losing any influence in the affairs of man, small though it is. The original traditionalist model has become so many trad-lite types wanting their cake and eat it. Enter a growing population of church-hopping, bet-hedging, career-chasing hybrids that staid priests will have problems keeping up with if they want an audience. No wonder the Society is keen to turn out a new breed of priest that is ahead of the curve! The clue will be in the handful of young hopefuls that are quickly promoted. I believe people were complaining how young ABL's early superiors were; they too had their script to follow.

If the SSPX ends up in ED-mode, it will have accepted the plural nature of contemporary Catholicism. In any event, the new direction cannot be stopped. However big the brand is, the much reduced true remnant will find itself making do with the limited resources it possesses. As it does now without superficial refinement.
